Daily Inspiration: Meet Masoma Imasogie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Masoma Imasogie.

Hi Masoma, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Masoma! I’m a twenty-six-year-old Philadelphia raised creative, living in Los Angeles. Growing up, one of my parents had a love for fine art and the other always had a camera…or camcorder in hand, so, I quickly fostered an innate interest in the art of non-verbal communication and an eye for capturing teeny precious moments. Funny enough, that early exposure is the bedrock of what I actually do today!

I started out with dance and turned to fashion. But after transferring from George Washington University to the University of Pennsylvania, I turned to photography – graduating with a degree in Fine Arts. My concentration was in film photography however, I gained an interest in mixed media and digital work.

A year or two down the line, I was accepted into the University of Southern California for graduate school and pursued a Master’s in Digital Social Media. Since then, I’ve been working in the media and tech space, with the thesis of connecting people who wouldn’t otherwise be connected and striving to nourish the way in which society communicates.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Right now, I’m in a place where I can look back a few years and say “it was all worth it”… however, when you’re going through the daily difficult moments, I’ve learned you have to remember your “why”, that you’re working towards a bigger goal and in my case, I need to lean on the village around me to keep me sane.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a digital storyteller. My world consists of social media management, video and photo production, strategy, creative direction, content curation, community management and being the liaison between the story and the audience.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Throughout undergrad, I sought out internships within all of my fields of interest (a true multifaceted, multi-hyphenated millennial) to create a foundation for my professional network after college. However, now I find great success in having genuine conversations with anyone I meet, regardless of their industry or background, as that allows me to build a more expansive network with numerous opportunities for mentorship.
