Meet Hollywood Wardrobe Stylist: Lana Spasojevic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lana Spasojevic.

Lana, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I had a passion for styling since the very young age, I used to bring my friends over, dress them and take pictures.

In 2014 I founded ModniProjekat (FashionProject) as a platform to show my vision, I started working with everyday girls (not professional models) that I felt had a right look to express my style. I used to do all the work at the beginning, I would style, take photos and edit them, sometimes I would use myself as I model if I didn’t have anyone available at the moment.

In 2015 I moved to LA and using ModniProjekat to showcase my work I found amazing models, photographers and makeup artist to work with which took my portfolio to a higher level. Just a couple months later I started getting offers to style for magazine editorials, music videos, fashion brands etc.

I feel like 2016 is just the beginning of everything that I wanted to do.

Has it been a smooth road?

The biggest struggle of becoming a stylist was building my portfolio which means a lot of investing for a long period of time and not earning anything from it. I was working as an online graphic designer for years before I had the money to invest in clothing, shoes, and accessories so that I come up with a different outfit for each photo shoot.

What’s your outlook for the industry over the next 5-10 years?
I feel like the personal style is becoming more and more important in everyday lives. It’s a huge part of who we are. The internet and applications already made a major change in the way we shop, so at this point when it comes to further changes and new trends we can expect anything.

What would you say has been the biggest challenge for you over the course of your career?
I guess the biggest challenge was to keep going and investing in your vision, I mean, it still is.

What advice do you wish to give to those thinking about pursuing a path similar to yours?
I know this might sound cliche, but be persistent and don’t give up, there’s a place for everyone and in the end whatever happens you will only regret not trying to do what you love.
