Check Out Jaclyn Rachelle’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaclyn Rachelle.

Hi Jaclyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been singing since I was a little kid. I’ve pretty much known that music is what I want to pursue in life, life has just kind of gotten in the way at times. Pursuing my dream while I have to make sure I have a job that aids in that. I started writing my own songs in college in Chicago and since then, I’ve just been independently releasing music and videos as much as I can. Living in the city had a big impact on me as a person which of course also affected my music. It definitely caused me to start making more genre-bending music, which seems even more popular now. After Chicago, I moved to LA to continue my music career. I’m from Orange County so I know LA pretty well. Coming back to the city I had grown up exploring brought back nostalgia at times which I think brought back an element of fun that I was missing in my writing for a while. I’ve taken a few years off here and there dealing with breakups and breakdowns and I’ve changed direction a couple of times but what’s stayed consistent is my drive and my creativity. I love making music. I just can’t stay away from it!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve definitely struggled financially and emotionally. That broke artist stereotype is real! But I was young and on my own just trying to figure it all out. There have been times I’ve paid for beats over buying food. I always keep some sort of a home studio set up so even if I can’t afford anything else I can always have studio time. Mental health is also something I’ve dealt with for a while. It got so bad at one point I really couldn’t see past the pain I was feeling. But thanks to good bosses and just hidden angels you meet along the way in life, I made it through healthier and stronger than I could’ve ever imagined. I wouldn’t trade the tough times for anything because they’ve made me who I am.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a singer. I make mostly R&B music but lately, I’ve been exploring other genres like Heavy Metal and Rock. I’ve also done some electronic dance songs along the way. I love hearing how my voice sounds on different types of music. I have a very smooth voice so juxtaposing it with the hardness of Rock music has been very fun. I go off my feelings so if I hear something or I’m making a beat with a friend, I’m always looking for what’s giving me an undeniable feeling. Cause at the end of the day, I want you to listen to my music and be able to feel something you can escape into.

What were you like growing up?
I was very adventurous growing up. I was always injuring myself because I couldn’t sit still and didn’t want to listen to my parents! But as I got older, I definitely went inward more and more and developed a vast imagination because of it. I grew up singing and dancing and doing sports. I was always keeping busy. I was in a kids performance company so I’ve performed at Disneyland and the OC Fair and places all around California. I was pretty shy in school but somehow was always friends with the popular kids.
