Community Highlights: Meet Rachel Arbuckle of 2000 Paces Photo Organizing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Arbuckle.

Hi Rachel, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2014, a series of fierce fires roared through San Diego County, the largest of which started on the mountain just behind my home. I had only minutes to grab a few items. My instinct was to gather all of our photos, but I panicked when I realized my precious memories were all over our home in boxes, picture frames, and albums. I grabbed what I could and our family headed to safety.

After many days of worry, we were able to return home to the memories we had to leave behind. Thankfully, our home was spared, but others in our community were not as fortunate.

This experience not only solidified my commitment to protect my family’s collection of photos but prompted me to found 2000 Paces Photo Organizing, encouraging you to organize and protect your important memories.

Why the name 2000 Paces Photo Organizing? I always saw this experience of looking through my own photos and those of my clients as a journey. So, I decided to find a name for my company that is fitting. In ancient times, 2000 Paces represented a day’s journey and that is exactly what we are trying to preserve and protect – our client’s journey!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I left my “safe” corporate job to start a small business in an industry that was just starting to grow and had very little structure or foundation. Needless to say, there were bumps in the road, many turns and some uphill challenges! However, I wouldn’t have it any other way! Since Photo Organizing is such a new concept a service, I have had the opportunity to create systems and processes from scratch and designed them in a way that provides the best results for our clients.

As you know, we’re big fans of 2000 Paces Photo Organizing. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Most of us have at least a few shoeboxes, legal boxes, or maybe even an attic of treasured but haphazardly placed family photos, memorabilia, home videos stored on outdated media, slides, and unsorted duplicate prints.

Accumulating alongside the boxes is also an overwhelming feeling or nagging guilt that we haven’t yet tackled this project because we are already unbelievably busy. So these memories stay hidden for years or even decades. At 2000 Paces, we help reconnect you with your photo and video memories by preserving and protecting them and organizing them in a manner that allows you to actually view, enjoy and share them with friends and family.

– We help people reconnect with their memories, protect them and share them with friends and family.

– We understand that these projects can seem overwhelming and often simply don’t get completed.

– Our strategy is first and foremost to listen to you and understand your photo organizing goals.

– We then provide suggestions and solutions that will enable those goals to become a reality.

– We help organize, protect and share your memories with family and friends so you can focus on making more memories.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I know of people who started their business with both feet first with the mentality that they have to do all and be all. I know of others who spent an incredible amount of time planning out each aspect of their business, taking courses and creating documents. I believe that a healthy balance between these two approaches is going to result in the best outcome. I needed to work “in the business” for a period of time in order to determine the best strategies to grow my business. It helped me with hiring the right employees, creating and improving processes to help my business run more efficiently and troubleshooting issues as they arise. However, when I spent too much time “doing”, I lost sight of our progress and goals. The healthy combination of these has helped me grow my business!
