Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Porter.
Hi Brian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in Orange County as a kid, up middle school where I relocated to south Texas, in the Rio Grande valley. Back in 2007 cartels were prevalent and I can safely say my becoming my own person as a kid in high school was pretty different. I have lost many friends and don’t have very much family as well. I came back to LA once I graduated because it was either fight or flight all the time in my mind and I knew I needed to escape. Living in West LA, I got to experience a pretty colorful world, as I was introduced to street gangs and drugs just like everyone else here. When you say go into as much detail as I can, I’m not sure there’s enough space to write everything that has happened. From homeless and addicted to drugs to backstage at festivals to performing at them. Iv experienced an enormous amount in my 28 years, and there could literally be a Netflix documentary on me. Respectfully.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
What’s smooth? Haha. Growing up with just my mom pretty much, my name Solo comes from just that. Being solo. I’ve lost over two dozen friends to violence, sickness, and addiction. And iv always spent time in jail, as well as sleeping in the streets. I was also kidnapped in 2016 but like I said. I’m not sure there’s enough space here or if you even have the time…
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a hip hop artist who fully believes in being authentic. I’ve known the struggle way longer then success so when it comes to showing people who I am through my music, I like to stay consistent with the truth. What sets me apart from others is I have a unique story and little by little, that more and more people are getting to know. Although I have been writing for a long time, I have been seriously recording music with a team for about a little over a year, just before the pandemic hit. I have performed dozens of times in la at numerous competitions and also was recently on dash radio and had small distribution deal with kaliente girls. I am also extremely proud of the festival I performed at where I opened up for Sueco the Child and Felix Flexxin. Very excited to do more.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
It takes a village! There’s many people I have to thank for helping me get where I am like my best friend friends skeeter Jones and nick Houston. I definitely would not be here without the Savage on the beat records team either. Like at ALL. Between some really good friends, a few family members, and who I consider family, I would not be here without any of their help.
