Today we’d like to introduce you to Mike Pro.
Hi Mike Pro, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, I always had a deep love for music. In 2011, I fell in love with the entire concept of creating when a high school friend of mine invited me to check out his home studio. After seeing how accessible the equipment was, it made the idea of making my own music far more realistic. Freestyle rapping at parties and in the backseat of my old beat up 93’ Civic turned into writing my own full songs and actually recording them at this point… I guess you could say this was the birth or “spark” of my musical endeavors. In 2012, I graduated high school and immediately moved back to my hometown city of Covina, CA in which I lived with a childhood friend & his mom. A year went by and in 2013, my older sister bought a home in Azusa, CA where I moved in & begin renting a room with her and her family. This would be where I spent the next two years recording local rappers out of my bedroom for quick cash, with a small recording setup I got for less than $200.
In 2014, while writing my own music and recording these artists, I made the decision to attend the Los Angeles Film School where I eventually graduated Summa Cum Laude with an Associate Degree in the Recording Arts. Once finished with school, I spent a small amount of time interning at various independent studios but eventually transitioned into recording and releasing my own music using Tunecore. Fast forward to 2019, I released my first album “Chapters” under my own independent record label, Lost And Found Entertainment. Since then, I’ve released nine singles, four music videos & have collaborated on other various other projects as well. We’re about a quarter of the way through 2021 as I write this, but I can assure you there will be much more to look out for! Stay tuned.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely hasn’t been the smoothest, but I don’t think I’d change the way it’s gone. The toughest part thus far was while attending film school… For both years, I didn’t have a car & was forced to use public transportation daily. The school was in Hollywood, which was 30 miles from my house. To get to class four days a week, I took two busses, a train & walked 3 miles. To & from… This calculated to about 6.5 hours of my day spent in traffic, on a packed bus, often with strange characters and (since I wasn’t making much money at the time) usually a growling stomach because I was hungry and couldn’t afford to buy lunch each day. Those hangry public transportation days were terrible but necessary for building a solid foundation for my future.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I like to think of myself as a jack of all trades. Aside from mixing & mastering all of my own music, I also produce some of it. I also direct, edit & produce all of my video productions as well as some of my peers as well. I enjoy creating as a whole and don’t like to limit myself to one field. Some might look at this as a bad thing, considering I spend a lot of time doing different tasks, however I believe in order to be great at anything you do, you have to actually love doing it. I just happen to love a lot of things.
Any big plans?
I have big plans for my future. Without getting into too much detail, I believe that the work I do now will put me in position to bless others – starting with my family & my future children and wife. I don’t simply want to make a million dollars. Although making a million dollars is anything but simple, I plan on doing more with the abundance that so many people take for granted in the entertainment industry today. I plan on creating a legacy & something that will carry on and affect people all around the world… Even when I’m long gone.
