Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Sands.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Los Angeles, CA. My dad came back from Vietnam and suffered from PTSD. He was unable to live a normal life. He became addicted to heroin and alcohol and proceeded to live a life of crime. My parents divorced and my dad got weekend visitations. Those visitations changed my life forever. Even though my dad never hurt me physically because of his drug addiction, I saw things that I would not wish on any little girl.
I promised myself that when I was an adult, I was going to help other girls rise above their situation and succeed in life.
Today, I have written and been a part of 5 books. Four are best sellers on Amazon. My first book, War Dad by Julie Sands, talks about my childhood and how I survived. I go into schools, churches, groups and speak on stages telling my story and how to be great, despite what you were born into.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It wasn’t easy at all. Growing up, there was no help for my dad or for the family of Veterans. I suffered in silence. I had to push my way out of that lifestyle and surroundings because I knew there was a better life out there.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
While I was a senior in high school, I took Real Estate courses and I have been in the real estate industry since 1989. I also bought an El Pollo Loco franchise and ran that business for about eight years. Today, I am still selling real estate. I have reached the Top 7% for Berkshire Hathaway nationwide. I also achieved Honor Society and Top 17%. Along with my successful real estate business, I started a coaching company called Shake it up now! I teach women how to make six figures in their business and still remain successful at home. The way I see it, what good is all the success in the world if your home life, your children and your marriage are in shambles.
I also pioneered a program for at-risk and inner-city kids called The Be Amazing Project. I use my story and techniques to teach the kids how to rise above their home situation, get through school, make good choices and succeed in life.
What makes you happy?
Seeing the people, I touch and around me happy and succeeding in life, not only in business but at home. I love bringing people closer to their faith because my faith in God is what got me through the hell I experienced as a little girl.
