Today we’d like to introduce you to Susie Albin-Najera.
Hi Susie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in the Bay Area and after college, I decided to move to San Diego so I could be closer to Mexico. It was there I started writing about travel and working in the travel industry. A few years later, I met my husband and we moved to Los Angeles where he was already working as a professional writer under the Writers Guild of America. We bought a house in the Valley and started a family. In addition to working in marketing and public relations, I enhanced my writing and started a travel blog. The blog was freeing and allowed me to generate curated content according to my schedule (as a new mom then) that I could share with others. This year, my blog, The Mexico Report celebrates its twelfth year online. Today I work as a Manager with Los Cabos Tourism and oversee all aspects of North America leisure travel. I love working in all aspects of travel and tourism – it’s a big connected family sharing the love of the travel and the world with others.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
There were many times I doubted myself because of certain situations, but as time went by, I realized that challenging experiences were the catalyst for change and growth. Being or feeling stuck in a situation helped me change my point of view and from there, I learned to ‘pivot’. I realized that, in life, sometimes you have to change lanes in order to keep moving forward.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My job as Manager of Los Cabos Tourism Board, based in Los Angeles, is the most rewarding and fulfilling experience I could have imagined. To be able to market and promote this destination and describe in detail about its plentiful offerings is a dream job. I also created another blog (Los Cabos Travel & Lifestyle) to align with this work as an added value and to create an additional platform of content. I push myself daily to be creative, think differently and to be innovative. I make a strategic effort to surround myself with positive leaders and in turn, I try to set good examples for our kids. I am most proud of my family and sharing my love of travel with them (and the world)!
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Overall, the travel industry family is very supportive and encouraging. It can be long hours and time away from your family. My husband, Rick, is my biggest supporter and has continuously encouraged all of my wild ideas! My boss, Rodrigo whom I’ve known for years, is also super supportive and deserves credit for hiring me when the opportunity arose.
