Jordan, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My adventure began like most dreams do, with an idea and an opportunity… and lots of family support. I had tried different jobs such as restoration, clothing, and even the food industry and had finally settled working inside sales at a tech company when my good friend, Jason Hinze, offered me his old position at a carpet cleaning company he had worked for previously, before beginning his own venture (another LA gem) Invision Studio. Naturally, I have O.C.D. and am extremely meticulous and truly enjoy cleaning as I have found it to be very therapeutic, so I was compelled to give it a shot. Within the first couple days, I knew I had found work that I genuinely excelled at above and beyond but still enjoyed at the same time, and even more exciting was I had a vision for what it all could be. Over the next few years, I soaked up every technique and inch of knowledge I could, becoming an IICRC Certified Carpet Cleaning Technician, and perfecting every possible service in our industry including Area & Oriental Rug Cleaning, Upholstery Cleaning, Tile & Grout Cleaning, Natural Stone Cleaning & Polishing, all the way to Hardwood Floor Care. Once equipped with the all this great knowledge and special training, I was ready to take the leap and begin my own Floor & Upholstery Cleaning company, one that I would make rival the global names such as Stanley Steemer and Coit. Using the money and credit I had been saving to try and buy a house, I instead invested into purchasing the best possible carpet cleaning equipment in the industry, coupled with the best, green products available. I then invited no other than my family to join me on this grand journey, including my fiancé, my older brother, my older sister, and her husband, who all come from a Restoration & Construction background specializing in Mold, Asbestos, Water & Fire Damage, and Construction. After the team was set in place and the equipment purchased, it was time to create an identity…a trusted brand. As I conducted my research, it became clearly apparent that the carpet cleaning industry was not only not regulated or controlled, but very uneducated. I found not a single customer, or even service provider for that matter, had a real clue what the best cleaning method was, what the right products and techniques were, or who was the clear cut leader in carpet cleaning? Just as we all know ‘Apple’ as the leader in cell phone suppliers, there just was no ‘Apple’ in the Carpet Cleaning industry… and that’s where we come in. We are OCD Home. Today, we are only 11 months into the operation and are growing fiercely, already servicing some of the largest properties and corporations in Orange County. Our mission statement really says it all and is true to its very core; “Our goal is to be the one that raises the bar, that resets the standards, that goes that extra mile & puts in a little more effort to make a lasting impression. To be the most honest, reliable, & diligently thorough service in the industry & the leading provider in our area. Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Well, all startups are bound to be financial stressful so there’s nothing new to expand on there. Our biggest challenge so far, has really been just lead generation and trying to gauge the most effective, successful methods or avenues of attaining new customers and presenting ourselves to a larger audience. Through experience and research, I’ve learned that website ranking is the most valuable source so I’ve solely built our website from scratch and have been teaching myself SEO ever since inception, to hopefully reap the benefits of a first page keyword ranking. As I’m sure we will face many hurdles in the future, whether it be hiring, expanding, quality control, etc. I strive to face all adversity with an open heart and an open mind and will always make sure things are handled correctly and promptly. If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I’m really happy with the progress we’ve made so far and I truly wouldn’t change a single thing about my team, our work, or our customer interaction. I guess if I could start from the very beginning again, the only thing I wish I would have paid more attention to was understanding advertising and website ranking factors to learn how to grow at a healthy pace. But we live and we learn.
