Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Sharpe.
Hi Emily, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a child and now as an adult, I am in love with the beauty of performance arts, rather it is the costumes, the make up, the production, the set up, whatever! I enjoyed the hard work and the beauty in it all. I believe this was the beginning of my journey.
My parents always had me in extracurricular activities that involved some form of performing or social gathering. This is how I also learned the beauty in people, learning different backgrounds, and the importance of social awareness. This steered me towards going into fashion and entrepreneurship. I begin modeling my senior year in high school, and since then have been published eight times and is continuing to grow my career in fashion.
I am currently attending Louisiana State University pursuing my bachelor’s. Outside of studying for school, I am the owner of the mobile fashion boutique, House of Terriane (@shopH.O.T) which is really allowing me to show my creativity. I am currently working on our fall collection which I am excited for everyone to see and enjoy! Also, I am the co-owner of my family cooking business @Sharpesstyle_cooking that keeps me quite busy as well.
Because I am passionate about my community, entrepreneurship, ownership, education, and lastly my heart….fashion; I wanted to find a way to share my ideas and give support to others with the same interest. So, I believe the Miss Black America pageantry was the best platform to do so. I am currently running for Miss Black America which I announce at the end of last year.
You might be thinking, this is a lot to take on…….YES IT IS! However, I truly enjoy the life of an entrepreneur and the struggles, lessons, and wins that comes along with the journey. I am very family-oriented, so I can definitely say my family support has much contribution to the goals I am pursuing. My father passed away last year due to COVID-19 and it became a drastic change that my mother, brother, and I are still struggling to adjust to. He was my life coach, my home, my greatest friend, and my proud father. He always encouraged me and pushed me to be the best that I can. I do believe in many ways that is why I am still pushing on because I can hear him cheering in the background.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There are many struggles in the road to building the life you want and pursuing your goals. One of the many struggles for me is time management. I am not involved in one organization or one business but many! So, when it is time to put “self-care” or “a break” on my calendar, I am struggling. However, as I hire help, speak up and ask for assistance, remember to stay organized, and be consistent, putting “me time” on the schedule is becoming better.
Looking for employees, interns, and services that is serious about your business and professional!! It is sooo hard to find people respectful, professional, and straight to the point….. at least where I am from.
Being positive no matter the outcome! I am human, so of course I can get frustrated if I didn’t meet a particular sales goal, or maybe a business meeting did not go so well. Through these ROADBLOCKS, I am learning to be patient and find another route to the divine goal.
As you know, we’re big fans of House of Terriane LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

It is important that our customers know it’s all about them! We want to show the beauty in how easy H.O.T can become your go to mobile fashion closet.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk-taking can be very tricky, especially when predicting the outcome is very minimum to your favor. When it comes to risk-taking for me, I look at what I already have and how much will the outcome affect me and my foundation rather I win or lose. If I lose and I still have a strong foundation and tools to still produce, create, and sell; than many times I will go for it. If it is the opposite, and the loss breaks my foundation or destroys it, than risk-taking becomes much more than just making one decision for self, now I am making a decision that can affect all the people that rely or feed from my foundation.
