Today we’d like to introduce you to Claire Bella.
Hi Claire, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I came to America as an immigrant right after graduating college. Although my story did not start there, it was certainly the beginning of a long road towards entrepreneurship. After leaving my family, friends and entire culture behind, I started working some odd jobs here and there. I finally landed a job where I eventually moved up the corporate ladder to become a VP in Finance. But there was always this yearning inside me to put up my own business. I grew up with a father who was entrepreneurial, so I think I always had this desire to follow that path. In 2015, after the birth of my third child, I was talking to friends who were also had a newborn and we were sharing parenting stories as well as our frustration on constantly having to sanitize, but all the disinfection solutions out there contained harsh, toxic chemicals. After doing our research, we found that UVC Technology has long been used in hospitals to eliminate diseases. So if the medical community trusted this technology, we thought that we should bring this to individual homes. We wanted to bring sanitizing solutions to homes that was safe, affordable and effective. That was the birth of UV Care.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely did not come free of obstacles or challenges. When I started out here, it was like none of my skills or prior achievements were valued or recognized. It was like starting from scratch, so it was definitely hard at first. Starting my business, I was juggling work, three young children and the uncertainties it brought made me rethink continuing it. Nobody knew what UVC was and getting the word out there was a struggle. Dealing with finding the right suppliers to put our vision to reality was hard at first. We had to undergo meticulous lab testing and certifications to ensure our product was effective and compliant. When the pandemic hit, people started becoming aware of what UV-C Technology is and its effectiveness in reducing disease causing germs. Luckily, we had a headstart and had time to perfect our products. We were featured on Hallmark Home & Family, Good Day Sacramento, Fox31, Huffington Post, Boston Globe and many other news outlets. In 2020, we were faced with another issue because the demand exceeded our supply, we had inventory issues, but we got through it. Entrepreneurship is like a roller coaster, but with hard work, resilience, a strong support system and faith, we manage to push through.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Since 2015, UV Care has been a trusted brand that specializes in UV-C sanitation, which addresses the concern of individuals and families in terms of keeping their homes and environment safe, healthy and germ-free. The company’s main focus is to provide high-quality, high-performing, environmentally friendly products at affordable prices. UV Care specializes in all aspects of UV-C disinfection and provides a complete package of UV-C sanitation solutions to all industries, individuals, homes and businesses.
We have a wide range of products, from Handheld Sanitizers, Sanitizing Boxes, Room Sanitizers, UV Vacuum Cleaners and Air Purifiers. Our products use special lamps that simulate the sun’s electromagnetic UV-C spectrum. UV-C light has a short wavelength so it does not reach the earth, but it has the most powerful germicidal effect. It deactivates the DNA of bacteria, viruses and other pathogens and thus destroys their ability to multiply and cause disease.
We saw how a single virus changed the entire globe in such a short time. I think the hygiene habits that we have learned during the pandemic need to continue, and UV Care helps homes, businesses and individuals in taking steps to ensure that a pandemic of that nature never happens again.
How do you think about happiness?
Being blessed with a wonderful family, supportive friends, and being able to have the time and resources to make memories with them truly gives me joy. In addition to that, I find happiness in knowing that we were able to develop a product that helps promote community wellbeing. During the pandemic, we were able to donate some sanitizers to hospitals who were facing a shortfall of supplies and masks. They used our Multi-Purpose Sanitizers to prolong the usage of their supplies and I am truly happy that we were able to help in our own little way during one of the darkest periods of our lifetime.
