Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Glover.
Hi Devin, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’m from New Jersey, and I do a little bit of it all. I originally started with making short films/videos which started in the 8th grade. And it has led me to do things today such as produce and edit one of my closest friend’s podcasts. I also do photography, along with managing an artist by the name of Xav The Ripper. Growing up, I was always into music and art in general, but I held myself back from it at first, it was something I would do with select friends or by myself, but as I’ve gotten older I began sharing it with other people and posting it more often. As far as music, I have listened to a broad range since a young age. I grew listening to older artists like the Isley Brothers, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, etc. But as I got older, I started branching into rap music, and some of the artists that I listened to early included 50 cents, Bonecrusher, Outkast here and there, and many more. But the artists that shaped my ear and the style of music that I gravitate towards today came in the 2010s era. These included Vince Staples, Tyler the Creator, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, etc. But all that aside, my goal is to make an impact in the entertainment industry for years to come, but for now, I’m just enjoying the ride, and I’m excited to see where it takes me.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, not at all. The problems I faced were more internal, and that stems from thinking people would judge me or feel a certain way about me doing something. But as time has passed, I realized that more often than not people appreciate the attempt and effort you put forward, rather than just judge straight off the back.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I do a range of stuff, these include artist management, photography, songwriting, video production, and I’m trying to get better at graphic design.
Xav the Ripper (Artist that I manage)
The Out of Bounds Podcast (The podcast I produce and edit)
And my photography and some graphic design work can be found on my Instagram
The thing that sets me apart is that I use my knowledge from every art form and I try to combine it all into one because they share similar principles and rules and I feel as though it’s helpful to each form of art. Another thing is my determination to do something and get better at it. Most people get discouraged when someone doesn’t like your art in the beginning stages, but that’s a part of the process, and you got to learn to take feedback as build off of it rather than get angry and take it personal.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
