Meet Julie Rader

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julie Rader.

Hi Julie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a young girl growing up in Cincinnati, I’d watch my grandmother study astrology which was intriguing and unusual for the Midwest in the 80’s. When I was a teenager, my mother was diagnosed with Breast cancer and used meditation along with the chemotherapy and radiation. She taught me simple relaxation techniques for sports performance, but I found its greatest benefit was giving me a sense of peace while watching my mom become weak and lose her hair. She is a survivor, by the way! These two women shaped who I am today – an astrologer and yogi. Throughout high school, college and grad school, I studied the power of the mind and then went ashrams around the world to study meditation and yoga from the best teachers available. After spending 33 days in silence at an ashram in Sweden, I came back and opened a couple of yoga studios in Manhattan Beach. The first with a partner, Pranva Yoga, and then I opened one on my own called Mukti Yoga. The studio closed after a few years, but Mukti remained as a teacher training school and has certified hundreds of teachers worldwide. Astrology has always remained in the backdrop as I self-studied the art for 20 years until I finally found my teacher. I love doing chart readings to help others unlock their highest potential by truly understanding their innate talents. Now I merge my two passions of yoga and astrology to tune into and balance out the energies of lunar cycles and planetary aspects.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As much as I’ve felt divinely guided along my path, it has not been easy. Being a spiritual teacher came naturally to me. However, embodying the role of businesswoman did not. I had some very tough business lessons to learn and definitely paid the price for it. The business of owning a yoga studio and managing teachers was stressful and took the joy out of teaching for me. Eventually, I decided to simplify and close the brick and mortar business. Mukti remains as a teacher training school with several amazing teachers. I no longer manage the teachers but remain involved. I’ve had to learn how to set boundaries, speak up for myself, and most importantly that being a spiritual teacher and businesswoman are not mutually exclusive. I feel like I earned an MBA from my lessons of owning studios, managing teachers and pivoting to an online business. Now as a single, homeschooling mother of two children, simplifying and making wise business decisions are more important than ever.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in Astrology and Yoga. I love working with families to read their astrology charts and help to understand how to parent their children based on their astrological makeup. Carl Jung did the charts of all of his patients to better understand them. Also, what sets me apart is the marriage of astrology and yoga both collectively and individually. I love prescribing yoga and meditation practices to people based on their unique astrological chart. I’ve been offering Yoga and Astrology workshop series as well to tune into the energies of full and new moons, retrogrades and changing seasons. I’ve also created an online Astrology Life Hacks course which is launching this fall.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’ve been told my whole life I have the best and worst luck. My life feels divinely guided and I’ve met the most amazing people along my path and I’ve been given opportunities beyond my wildest dreams. However, when I am not fully paying attention or when I’m not on my highest path, then “bad luck” often shows up to get my attention. For example, while living modestly, I’ve flown on private planes, taught yoga around the world, worked with several celebrities and professional athletes, all of which just fell into my lap. And I’ve also had over 15 concussions, a couple of near death experiences and some other unfortunate experiences.
