Meet Kristin Lee of Kristin Lee Photography in Simi Valley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Lee.

Kristin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Surprisingly I’m not one of those photographers that has always had a camera hanging from my neck. I always enjoyed the simple point and shoot cameras as a kid, and my first real experience with photography was in high school. I have a background in business with my Associates from Moorpark College and continued on to get my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Professional Photography from Brooks Institute. After Brooks, I was a little lost in how I was going to make it in the industry, I worked for a photography agent and furthered my knowledge in the business of photography. I’ve been around and riding horses for the past 16 years; having always wanted to shoot sports, I realized I could combine my knowledge and love of both horse riding and photography into one.

What an amazing road I’ve been on ever since that!

Has it been a smooth road?
Smooth road? No, but what is life without some twists and turns. I’m still constantly learning and things shift. For example, show jumping or any equestrian sport is a niche, but there are still many a few amazing photographers so the industry is saturated so it’s hard to find a way in and you can’t give up. You just have to keep showing everyone your work and who you are.

Kristin Lee Photography is a one-man band; specializing in equestrian photography, all things equine! I strive to capture that “moment” for each customer; ask them to tell me about their stories (horse and rider) so I can show each pair unique bond.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Los Angeles is a tough city for anyone trying to become a photographer. The expenses outweigh the rates clients are willing to pay. Although for myself and other equestrian photographers, there is a large equine community in Los Angeles and the surrounding areas!
