Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyla Hardine.
Hi Kyla, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
On April 19, 1996 I was born in Belize City, Belize; a small Caribbean country in Central America. I moved to America in 1999, I was three years old. I grew up in South Central Los Angeles and attended private Christian schools from elementary through high school.
As I maneuvered my way through college, I felt like I never truly discovered my passion or calling in life. I often felt like I was just going through the motions of life without any real direction. I often let fear hold be back from stepping out and trying new things or meeting new people. I knew that God did not give me a spirit of fear but for whatever reason failing was something that I was afraid to do.
Once I graduated college, during a global pandemic I might add, I knew that something in my life had to change. I knew I could no longer let fear control MY life. So I decided to just start.
The goal of my brand is to inspire young adults to go after what they want, embrace themselves to the fullest, and know that they are more than enough.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I am still in the very early stages of developing my brand and already, it has been quite a journey. Once I made the decision to just start things just felt right. I was very confident in my abilities and I was ready to just try everything. However, as time went on I began to doubt myself and what I have to offer my generation. I think this is something that a lot of business owners may deal with especially when they are just starting out. There have been countless times I didn’t feel confident enough to promote myself or I’ve thought about just stopping. The thing that always gets me back on track is remember why I started and knowing that if I can help just one person then I am doing something good.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
At the moment, my goal is to spread positivity, inspire and motive others to live the life they want. There are several ways I achieve this. The first is through my YouTube channel Kyla Audrey. This is a space where I get to be creative. I love posting content around Natural Hair, Fitness, and Motivation. These are areas where I can express myself while also motivating others to start on their journeys, whatever that may be. I also came out with a t-shirt line that showcases positive messages. Something I am most proud of is the free natural hair care guide that I developed in order to guide black women on the journey of caring for their hair. Something I feel that sets me apart from others is simply that I am no longer afraid to fail. I know that the things I have and will put out are coming straight from the heart. So whether or not I fail, there is still so much to be proud of.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Looking back on my childhood, I just remember always being happy. No matter what my family may have been going through or times things didn’t go my way, I remember still being happy that I was able to experience life. Something I really loved growing up was Thanksgiving. We would always host at my house and being an only child, I was always happy when I had more people to talk to. It was time I got to be surrounded by so many loved ones and it just felt exciting.
