Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Jounce.
Hi DJ Jounce, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve loved music for as long as I can remember. I started playing piano at a young age and was a band nerd in school. I played in rock bands but after I started DJ’ing, I shifted more into electronic music. Originally, I thought electronic music would be an easy transition because you can edit things on computer, but it’s a whole different animal and no joke. Someday, I hope to be able to get the crazy sounds I have in head thru the computer and out your speakers more effectively. I’m very excited to get closer to that. Haha
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I probably speak for many artists or entrepreneurs: It’s far from smooth, especially because we need to be not only the creator but proficient in marketing, branding, social media management, PR, graphic design, video editing, sound design, mixing & mastering, legal matters, etc. I’m ok with maybe one and a half of those. There’s no helpline to call so we have to figure things out mostly on our own. But I’m not complaining at all. Music is my passion and there’s nothing else I’d rather do for a career.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
So I produce electronic dance music that’s some weird blend of bass house, electro, tech-house and future house. I work in other genres, but the aforementioned comprise the majority of my recent work. I guess I should be proud and thankful for the fact that I’ve been able to pursue music full time mainly through my own efforts. I can’t really speak for others, but I’m in this not for fame, money, to be on a big stage, get girls or anything like that. Some people don’t care as much about the music so maybe I’m different in that regard. Not judging. But for me, it really is about the music first and foremost.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My mom started me on piano and both parents encouraged my musical interests at least as a hobby. I went to public schools but we were very fortunate to have music programs so much credit goes to those teachers. Some of my friends have been very supportive and I’m incredibly grateful. But without question, my girlfriend is my biggest supporter. Rather than complain about all the time I’m spending in the studio or anything else that comes with dating a musician, she’s definitely my #1 “cheerleader”. Even when things are bad and I’m being a little b*tch, she pulls me up and encourages me because she believes in me. With her, I feel like I cannot lose.
