Today we’d like to introduce you to Eva Navarro.
Hi Eva, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My modeling career journey officially started the summer of 2018, when I moved from my hometown Gilbert, Arizona to Irvine, California at 18! I resided in the OC area for about a year before moving to LA to pursue modeling full-time. Before I was blessed enough to do so, I was working two serving jobs as well as trying to accept as many last minute bookings from my agency as I could. Prioritizing work while making the two hour drive to LA definitely made me value my time there and making valuable connections which led me to being able to move. The little free time I had, I’d spend shooting to build my portfolio in order to continue to grow my career. I realized the more positive effort and energy I’d pour into myself, the more it reflected in my work and came back to me. After about a year in Orange County, I quit my jobs and moved to LA. I was so incredibly fortunate and excited to see and feel myself progressing! Modeling full time consisted of multiple castings every week, sometimes per day, doing occasional portfolio work to keep it updated, maintain bookings to build a clientele, all while keeping a healthy mindset and life. I am so grateful to be able to now pursue my dream, and although I’ve accomplished so much, I am only just beginning. I have huge expectations and dreams that I’m so excited to achieve and evolve into my future self.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Although I’ve been fortunate enough to experience so much positivity throughout my journey, I’ve definitely had a fair share of obstacles. Within the first few months of moving, I was diagnosed with a very rare medical condition as well as a small tumor, which both required surgery. This felt incredibly overwhelming at the time, as I was just starting to figure life out on my own. Recovery was very important yet challenging, both physically and mentally. Even though it was a very heavy process to deal with, it taught me so much on how to find strength and reliance within myself. As far as the modeling industry goes, it definitely requires a lot of mental and emotional energy, which I feel these obstacles had helped prepare me for. You really also have to find what sets yourself apart, so it’s incredibly important to be the truest version of yourself and really invest in what makes you happy!
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I love what I do! Modeling is such a fun form of expression for me, as well as a serious outlet that can funnel into huge opportunities. Currently, my favorite set I ever worked on was definitely Pepsi Mexico because it was so different than what I’m used to. It was a mix of both motion and print work, as I’m used to mainly print. We had about four different locations in one day and wrapped up at the beach. It was also very surreal to work with such a big company I’ve known my whole life, and alongside an amazing team! Every opportunity I’ve ever received always feels so rewarding and amazing that I’m truly choosing the path that I love.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
For anyone wanting to get into modeling, I definitely recommend finding a mentor! This can be referred to a “mother agent” in the industry. A mother agent is your agent who essentially helps develop your career and presents you to agencies they believe have a good fit for your market. It’s very important to find someone who is excited about you and has the same vision for your career as yourself, as they are the ones always pushing for you and your book. I can easily say I’m so thankful for mine! I recommend submitting to a well-established mother agent if you are serious about agency representation in the industry.
