Today we’d like to introduce you to Wes McGee.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
As a child, I was lucky enough to have a large plot of land where my siblings my cousins and I could have free reign to explore and create. We ran through the woods to act out the plot lines from The Raiders of the Lost Ark to The Wizard of Oz to Back to The Future (bit of a Spielberg fan here). The fulfillment of being deep into imagination has always stuck with me. After college, I was doing network engineering for community banking so for me, I found it to be lacking in many departments that could bring me real joy. Sure having money ain’t bad but having the itch to live a life of creation can drive ya batty. I was in an acting studio on the weekends while working my computer job and the opportunity to audition for an LA manager came about. The manager liked me and then several months later, I was driving across the country.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a steady uphill climb with some stumbles in between. There are sacrifices I’ve made but at the end of the day, I can say I rest easy at night. Relationships can be a struggle when you are stuck in survival mode for long stints. Things come to you when you shift towards self-care and thinking in an abundant, self-accountable way. Loving yourself is the only way to love others then everything else falls in line. I know that’s said all the time but it bears repeating.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an actor primarily. But as of late, I’m helping to open a new acting studio in Atlanta where we hope to bring the same level of “live and die” for the craft as New York and LA seem to have. And I’m also hobbiest carpenter.
