Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachael Sofia.
Hi Rachael, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’ve been a model for about five years. A lot of my work has been featured in magazines, short films, contests and editorials. I started modeling by doing my own shoots at home until I got my first big opportunity to model for GAP/Old Navy. As the years have passed, I’ve been featured by many magazines including Maxim, Inked and SimplySxy. I’m very proud of how far I’ve come and I can’t wait to keep receiving these blessings in my career.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
When I first started, it was definitely hard to gain traction as I wasn’t working with an agency. Luckily, as I was a photographer before I ever modeled, I had lots of equipment of my own to start building and creating content to post on my social media, eventually gaining traction after a year. I would say in my opinion, it isn’t as easy as you think to create a modeling career as there’s a lot of competition for it as well as the ”standards’ we feel pressured to follow as women. Luckily, the times have changed a lot since I first started and I’m happy to see it as everyBODY is beautiful.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a model, I like to specialize in fashion, the arts and film. I have collaborated with many brands over the years I’ve modeled and it’s something I love to do. I directed, filmed and edited a short film three years ago that I’ve won a few awards for that I have showcased on my Instagram along with being casted in a few short films that won awards at TIFF. I would say what I’m most proud of is how far I’ve come and everything I’ve accomplished, so far that is. I think what sets me apart from others is a question that I’m not sure how to answer, I view myself equal to everyone else and that’s how I like it.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
Covid has been a hard time for me but with hard times comes lessons and enlightenment. I’ve learned a lot about myself, how I should be treating myself and cutting out things that don’t serve my being anymore. The impacts of the pandemic have been heavy and I know I’m not the same person I was when this all began, but I’m thankful for it. I don’t think I knew the girl in my shoes before all of this happened.
