Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Nance.
Hi Kim, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a young child, I always had a love for fashion. I recall my mom and grandmother used to sew all the time making all types of outfits for my sister and I. I can remember countless times being with my mom at the fabric stores. I would run my hands through those colorful silk fabrics and rub my cheek and imagine me posing in some beautiful outfit made from it. I have always desired to own a fashion boutique. I love dressing up and helping others put their outfits together.
My philosophy “If you feel good, you should look good.” The motivation to build my own brand came from the E-Commerce platform with Marisa Kenson and MK Collab. The platform is now called Shop Social Scene. In 2015, I had the opportunity to work closely with Caroline Bryan and Marisa as an affiliate. Being involved in meetings and learning about the business and its structure was mind-blowing. Seeing how driven these ladies were fed me with much knowledge. During that time, I was also committed to a 9 to 5 job and also working on my acting career. I found it was challenging to build a team and have people understand how to make money with curated brands. After giving it a few more years, I still yearned to have my own brand. For many years In the past years, I would attend a lot of seminars at the Las Vegas Magic Trade show and I did lots of research. Little by little, I began to build my brand. An opportunity came about and I left my job on Faith and fully built and developed NKIMS CLOSET LLC and launched in October 2019.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been easy. You do run into distractions things come up that don’t have anything to do with your business that needs your attention. Then there is the process of rejections that you encounter along with the financial challenges and lack of help. I do recognize everything you do in life takes a process to get there. But with pushing your way through and surrounding yourself around positivity vibes, you can get through it.

NKIMS CLOSET represents quality and affordability. I want to reach as many customers as possible to help them look good and feel good about themselves. The brand’s affordable and irresistibly beautiful pieces are available online and stand by its Free shipping policy and has received good reviews from customers across the United States. I am the CEO Owner of the business its a one woman show. I do everything from daily planning, setting online meetings, processing orders, negotiate contract bids. What separates my company from others is the fact that my fashion line is about inclusivity and making women feel beautiful in their own skin when they wear my clothes. I am most proud that in such a short time, my brand is becoming known internationally and Globally. My brand isn’t about one or a particular shape. It’s for all women of all sizes. We do allow curbside pickup upon request.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I would have to say my good luck has to be starting this business during a Pandemic. At first, I was hesitate but It turned out to be God’s timing to allow it to happen. All preparations have falling into place. The networking and getting the Brand known has been received very well and lead to opportunities. I currently have a Billboard AD up. I have styled my first professional photoshoot and will be styling for an upcoming Independent show. I am happy to see the orders are coming in and now I clearly see why there were delays in the past.
