Exploring Life & Business with Devin Williams of In The Lab

Today we’d like to introduce you to Devin Williams.

Hi Devin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?

Everything in my story stemmed from a simple class project that I had to film for a class. I had to make a “day in the life” video and for me, that happened to be a video training two kids named Kyle & Mady. Now, I didn’t have a hard drive to save the project on after it was finished, so I uploaded it to YouTube….and the rest was history. It started going viral overnight, especially in China and before I could even realize what was happening, I made a second video.( https://youtu.be/E7ctsRfbtBY) Over the years my “Ten000hours” documentary series has had millions of views and fans from all over the world. Many people have found motivation through the stories and even more, have been inspired by the training and work ethic put forward by the athletes. Through the years, it’s been a crazy journey of ups and downs. I’ve been able to grow as an entrepreneur, basketball trainer, video editor, and human being. I’ve had the chance to work with brands like the NBA, Adidas, Lyft, Euroleague, Jordan, Eastbay, EA Sports. NBA2K and so much more. I’ve also been able to travel all over the world to teach the game of basketball in places like Thailand, China, Hong Kong, Canada, Europe, and more.

On top of all this, I’ve been able to build a global brand. In The Lab. (https://inthelab.tv/) In The Lab is based on the concept of 10,000 hours. We say that it takes 10,000 hours of dedicated, focused and committed practice to master your craft. Every day we’re all In The Lab working together to achieve our own personal feats of mastery and greatness. We want to push people to achieve multiple breakthroughs within their lifetime. Breakthroughs are key components to growth, building confidence and taking a positive step forward in life. These are life-changing moments that act for the better and have an impact on the future. Over the years In The Lab has built an amazing community of individuals around the world who believe in and preach our message. This has allowed people to come together to work on their goals, creating an online family that spans the entire world. One of my goals is to build In The Lab into the next Adidas/Nike.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Just like with anything in life, there are bound to be struggles along the way. From starting a business to building a team and trying to understand how to navigate the entrepreneurial journey, it’s a never-ending process of learning. This is all apart of the “fun” for me, this is the experience you live for every day. The chance to wake up and learn, grow and build every single day.

We’ve been impressed with In The Lab, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
The first thing that sets us apart is our name, In The Lab. You can read the meaning behind the name below and realize that is a big game-changer for us. We just released our SECOND shoe this year, which is another big accomplishment for us. https://inthelab.tv/collections/all/products/in-the-lab-x-equalizer-sphere-shoe I also have created “THE ACADEMY”, which is my online training program. This is the basketball training version of Netflix, purely focused on training and building athletes from the ground up. Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Just putting yourself out there, people want to help you just need to find them. The easy way is by asking, if you don’t ask then you will never know.
