Exploring Life & Business with Linda Caro of Little Hunnys Cakery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linda Caro.

Hi Linda, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started out making cakes for friends, family, and my children about 14 years ago. One of the cakes I made for one of my kids received so much praise on Facebook, I received my very first cake order from a client shortly thereafter. I wasn’t ready to take on orders yet but that kind of forced me into it. After that, I started to really love creating edible art in the form of cakes for clients. In 2016 I was asked to go on Food Network’s Cake Wars. I was able to choose my own assistant and it was my first competition ever. I ended up winning and was beyond shocked and proud! I was up against professional cake artists who had actual storefront bakeries! After that, I kept making custom cakes and cupcakes and in 2017, I was asked back to Food Network for Cake Wars Champs. This is where we compete against other previous winners of Cake Wars. I didn’t win that one but we were runners up. I had a great time and competed against some really great competitions. Over the years, I’ve had the honor of making some really great cakes for some really great companies including Barbie’s 60th birthday cake and cupcakes for the entire Mattel staff in 2019! And in 2020, I had the great honor of making a cake for a Food Network chef! I continue to make custom cakes and cupcakes for clients and I absolutely love what I do!

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
For the most part, it’s been a smooth road but I have had a few hiccups along the way. In the beginning, when I wasn’t that experienced yet, I had some troubles making certain things I have never made before. Over the years with practice and patience, I have learned how to overcome those struggles.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My name is Linda Caro and I am the owner of Little Hunnys Cakery located in Escondido, CA in the beautiful county of San Diego. I have been in business for over ten years and I am completely self-taught. I learn through trial and error. I specialize in smooth buttercream cakes with sharp edges and clean fondant detail and small fondant sculpting. I am usually set apart from others because of my attention to detail. I am most proud of my clean work. In addition to cakes and cupcakes, I also manufacture and sell edible glue. It’s one of the top-rated edible glues and I am super proud to make and use something that so many cake artists and cookiers love! I sell it on my website along with some online cake classes. Those can be found at www.LHCakery.com/shop.

Any big plans?
My future plans would be to offer more online classes as well as more products.
