Today we’d like to introduce you to Chioma Egege.
Hi Chioma, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up, I struggled with low self-esteem and feeling naturally beautiful. When I turned 18, I decided to work on my self-esteem and confidence. This included taking better care of my skin, wearing clothes that’d make me feel confident, getting my lashes done and more! Unfortunately, I had a bad experience when I received lash extensions for the first time. Although I felt beautiful, I knew something wasn’t right. I decided to do research about lash extensions and discovered that I’d love being a lash technician. I genuinely enjoy paying attention to detail and making people feel good about themselves. I took multiple training courses, acquired multiple certifications, and started working in my basement. After starting Wink’dbyChi in 2019, I decided to pursue even more of my interests in the beauty industry. I worked in a private salon for a year, and now I have my own suite. I’ve been able to launch a lash supply line of high-quality products that’d be great for any and every lash technician. My never dying desire to grow and acquire more knowledge is what got me where I am today.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. Some of the struggles I encountered were financial issues, time management, and maintaining clientele. As a full-time student and full-time entrepreneur, I learned that you have to put in a large amount of hard work to receive the outcomes that you desire. Being a business owner is a never-ending job that requires immense passion to keep you going on the tough days.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an eyelash, eyebrow, and teeth whitening technician. I specialize in eyelash extensions, eyebrow waxing/tinting, tooth gems, and teeth whitening. I am known for professional eyelash extensions and eyelash supplies/products! The Wink’dbyChi suite and product line are two accomplishments that I’m extremely proud of. I believe that what sets me apart from others is my eye for detail, love for knowledge and passion for making people feel great about themselves every day.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice to those starting out would be to remain consistent and never second-guess yourself. Consistency is extremely important when it comes to maintaining a business. I wish I didn’t second-guess myself when I was starting out. I actually postponed my business launch because I was scared and too worried about what others would think. Regardless of how ‘sure’ I was, I hesitated when doing a lot of things. There’s a difference between making a well thought out decision and second-guessing your decision. Never second-guess!
