Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaehoon Cho.
Hi Jaehoon, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started making music in high school with a friend. He produced our tracks and I laid down vocals for him. I really started to enjoy music as I loved to freestyle and be able to entertain people with my raps.
As a kid, I would move a lot and I soon moved to Los Angeles where I attended Los Angeles City College. This was when I started producing my own songs as I received my associate’s degree in music technology. Throughout the semester, I would organize orchestras as many of my peers were classical music students and would play various instruments. While I was performing a show at school, one of the audience members told me about this place where people would write topics every week and present their musical or poetic pieces. This is when I met Leila Steinberg who heads these workshops and has a non-profit organization called aim4theheart which I later joined to become a part of. In the present time, my wife and I have a YouTube channel named [think] and we create content every week. We have many plans in how we want to grow our audience but for now, we are focused on creating the best content we possibly can.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life is always filled with struggles but that is what makes us grow as human beings. My family has always been chaotic as my mom and dad have a horrible relationship which caused me to not be home a lot. I was also quite rebellious and was usually outside, hanging out with friends. I would steal and fight and got into quite a lot of trouble as a youth. I also drank and smoked weed underage and tried different types of drugs. I also used to sell weed as a youth as well. However, this taught me how to navigate through chaotic situations and it helped me to grow into the person I am today. It has enabled me to be able to story tell through the music that I make.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am in a non-profit organization called aim4theheart which is headed by Leila Steinberg. This non-profit goes into prisons and schools and workshops using music to help teach people how to be emotionally literate. I am a producer, rapper, and a YouTube content creator as well. I am proud of who I am and the person I have become and the obstacles I have overcame.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is having people that I love, especially my wife, whose name is Angie. Having these genuine relationships helps me grow as a person. For me, happiness is not about the situation you’re in or a feeling. Happiness is a state of mind that you can achieve as a person by becoming a person that you love. No one can always be happy, in fact, it’s not always good to be happy but I have learned to turn any situation into something positive.
