Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Franco.
Hi Samantha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am an electronic music artist and graphic designer. I started my project BARA HARI in 2017. I produce and write my own music as well as the imagery that goes along with it.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It’s never a smooth road when you’re an indie artist without financial support. It is difficult to reach an audience when social media requires that you pay for advertising and subjects you to an algorithm that prioritizes all the wrong things. Getting music videos made on a budget is difficult which is why I do all my own editing. Nevertheless, it is a very rewarding process. I’m happy I get to make what I want.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an electronic music artist under the moniker of BARA HARI. I make dancey, ethereal electronic music as well as all of the imagery that goes along with it. I take and edit my own photos and direct, style and edit my own videos. I have a vast array of musical and visual influences that I feel help to keep every song I make not confined to any genre. I’ve been writing music for a little over three years and released my debut EP entitled “Pandora’s Box” in June of this year. My partner and I have collaborated quite a bit and I am very proud of the way that we work together despite the limitations that we have as independent artists.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I feel like anyone that puts their art on a public platform is taking a risk. You’re basically subjecting yourself to the court of public opinion and that doesn’t always play out in your favor. I’ve taken a risk as far as the direction I am taking my music in my EP is pretty dark and moody but the new stuff I am working on is slightly more upbeat. I find that I get bored when I keep with one mood or aesthetic for too long. I might lose some people in the process but ultimately, your art is only good if it’s genuine.
