Life & Work with Mory Diakite and Timothy Amankwah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mory Diakite and Timothy Amankwah.

Hi Mory and Timothy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Starting a clothing is a dream we had since kids. Growing up, we were never the most fortunate but we made the most of what we had and fashion was a way of standing out. In middle school, we would go to the mall every weekend and see all the older kids in their designer clothing and cool sneakers wondering how we could make it different.

As we continued to get older and started to work, instead of buying the latest designer clothing we decided to invest in ourselves and create a clothing brand named High Roller Club. High Roller Club represents the never ending elevation of the determined youth. Our definition of what it means to be a High Roller is to not let anything stop you from doing what you desire. We are very proud to say that we started a business as teenagers. Come support us and join the Club!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We knew that starting a clothing brand was not going to be easy and we were fully aware the challenges. Some of the challenges that we faced was finding the initial funds to start the brand, making time for the brand while still attending high school as seniors, and starting the brand by ourselves with no guidance or blueprint to help us. We overcame these challenges by saving money, managing our time better, and going with the flow.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
High Roller Club is a black-owned streetwear clothing brand that makes trendy clothing. We specialize in colorful graphic designs that are present on our graphic t-shirts, sweatpants, and shorts. Being that we are into fashion and design, we create clothing that we ourselves would wear. What we believe makes High Roller Club unique from other clothing brands is the approach we take in the detail of our designs. We incorporate meaningful aspects of our everyday lives into our designs.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Advice that we would give to those who are just starting out is not let anyone dictate what should be done with your business. We strongly believe that you should have full creative power of what you want to do with your own business.
