Meet Farley Granger of FGMX in North Long Beach

Today we’d like to introduce you to Farley Granger.

Farley, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When I was 4, I began racing BMX competitively. At 6 I moved to motocross and worked my way up to the pro ranks by age 23. Unfortunately due to the downturn of the economy, I was forced to retire a few years later. I had to figure out what I wanted to do after my career ended so I sought out regular jobs. Those jobs never lasted long and I was put on unemployment but that ran out quickly.

I figured I’d take another stab at racing on borrowed bikes but I kept getting injured and nothing seemed possible; so in 2012, I decided to create my own company and I founded FGMX. It came from my deep passion for riding and competing in Motocross and was funded entirely by me.

FGMX is a brand unlike any other and is a place where anyone can hone their riding skills, have fun all while we introduce motocross as a family-oriented recreational sport. We promote safety, growth, wellness and passion and want your time spent with us to be an experience!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth ride at all. In fact it’s been a struggle the entire way. Because I lost all my income including unemployment, I was forced to figure out how to first survive. I was determined to make the company work on my terms, so I used what I had on hand such as a small pick-up truck, my passion for riding and racing motorcycles and an idea to start teaching the fundamentals of motocross. to help inspire people and keep them safe.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about FGMX – what should we know?
I like to call my company the front door to motocross / motorcycles. We specialize in the fundamentals of motocross riding and racing but also teach clients to become proficient in motorcycle riding. I’m known to be extremely passionate when teaching and motivating my clients but I want everyone to have fun and learn the basics in as short an amount of time as possible.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I’m proud to say that I didn’t build this company on any startup money. It was created purely on passion and drive. What sets me apart from others like me is that all other motocross trainers and riding coaches primarily focus on teaching the next generation of prodigies and my focus is on everyone else from the beginner riders to people who have never seen a motorcycle before.
