Rising Stars: Meet Cameron Hall

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cameron Hall.

Hi Cameron, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
It all started in the summer of 2020. It was always a dream of mine to start designing clothes and have my own brand but I lacked the skills and the time. The COVID-19 stay-at-home order finally gave me time to perfect my craft and really start brainstorming and designing my brand as a whole. I spent a few months meticulously designing everything myself from the website, social media platforms, packaging, as well as handmaking all of the clothing pieces, so it really was a passion project for me. Finally, after months of preparation, I launched Dream of Jean as an e-commerce clothing store and have been loving every minute of growing and managing my brand ever since. I have received tons of support from friends and family and really couldn’t have done it without them.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road to get to where we are today. The biggest struggle hands down was building the brand all by myself, but honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way. It definitely is taxing to manage all the moving parts of a business by yourself but at the same time, it gave me full creative control to convey the brand how I visioned it to be.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a (mostly) self-taught fashion designer and owner of a clothing brand, Dream of Jean. I do some freelance seamstress work but for the most part design for my clothing brand and myself. I am always looking to improve so this changes almost weekly, but as of right now I specialize in jacket tailoring, dresses, and top pieces. I would say I’m most known for the jackets I have created, mostly for freelance commissions, because I have received a lot of love and praise for them via social media. I’m most proud of Dream of Jean since every single part of it is completely mine and I’ve just poured so much love and hard work into the brand as a whole. I think that what sets me apart from others is definitely my drive and just eagerness to improve my craft and pour all of myself into it.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I’ve learned while creating and managing Dream of Jean is definitely patience. When I began to plan and brainstorm for the brand, I just wanted to do everything all the time and be able to share it as quickly as possible, but what I learned is that building a brand takes time especially doing it all yourself. I had to wait for the best quality packaging, materials, etc. instead of taking the quick and easy way out of getting poor-quality and non-sustainable materials, which is really what sets Dream of Jean apart.
