Life & Work with Diane Numark

Today we’d like to introduce you to Diane Numark.

Hi Diane, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my love of dance at the young age of three, started teaching jazz, tap and ballet classes at sixteen and added Circus Choreographer to the mix at eighteen. But after majoring in Broadcast Journalism at Pepperdine University, I put my passion into making Television. After a 3-month-gig turned into ten years working for the Emmy- Award Winning “ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition,” I decided it was time to take a “break” to focus on my kids. That was when I discovered Barre and credit it for getting my body back after my second child. For four years, I devoted myself to the practice and was recruited to instruct. After teaching for three years, I knew I was going to own the studio someday and when the opportunity to become the barre boss finally came in 2019, I jumped and became a small business owner.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
I bought Barreworks in August 2019 and love seeing the community get stronger together, even during these difficult times. After owning the business for barely six months, we were closed due to covid, but never missed a day of work moving our classes on-line and training the instructors to teach engaging zoom classes while in quarantine. The studio also added live outdoor classes at Rock & Brews, the Torrance Roller Rink and right outside on their patio to keep the community working out safely together. It’s been a hard year, but I have never felt healthier, stronger and happier in her life! My clients are more like family than ever and together, we have become stronger and more connected than ever. My Barre Motto, “Barre doesn’t get easier, but YOU get BETTER.”

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Everyday, I love getting to bridge the physical, mental and emotional for each and everyone of my clients. I do a daily LIVE morning briefing called “Tuck and Talk” on Facebook at 8am and give the announcements of the day. I evoke my inner Kelly Ripa to encourage positivity in my community. I try to recognize my barre babes, who are making a difference in their communities, support local businesses, give health and wellness tips or quotes of inspiration. We also have monthly challenges, so I encourage everyone to get to the next level and find the resilience to find time for themselves in our busy lives. We stay focused on staying strong and safe during these difficult times, but we also have fun. We’ve had dress up contests – my favorites were Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and JLo. We’ve played Bingo and even raffled off a FREE VIP year for anyone who completed “7 classes in 7 days.” My favorites competition was this past Summer Olympics. We actually had a battle for first place to take as many classes as you physically could in two weeks – the winners neck and neck completed 75 and 73 classes in just two weeks. We commissioned an artist to commemorate the Barreworks Olympic Spirit and then painting hangs in the studio to inspire us all.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
Barre strengthens, lengthens, tones and gives you a mindbody connection that keeps you coming back for more! We would love for you to take our killer classes. We have 30+ classes a week – Barre, Trampoline, Bootcamp, Barre HIIT, Yoga, Cardio Dance, Mat Pilates and specialty classes like POUND and PLYOJAM. We have 12 teachers, each with a unique style and playlist. What I love about Barreworks is that it never gets old. There is always a new workout move or new class that we get to offer. And you will see results in your physique, posture and flexibility! For those who need LIVE Groups classes we have them. Six a week for now, hopefully we’ll be back in the studio later this year with up to six a day. For those not yet comfortable with in-person classes, livestream can be taken from your living room or on a replay anytime within 24 hrs. The classes are geared to all levels, and there are always modifications if there is an injury to consider. We even have specific exercises for pre and postnatal terms.
