Inspiring Conversations with Krysia Strumpf of Division 9 Collaborative

Today we’d like to introduce you to Krysia Strumpf.

Division 9 Collaborative started in Boston, MA about seven years ago. The vision came from Tony Butlin who felt that the commercial tile business was missing something. He created a modern aesthetic, a new way to display and promote tile. Since then, we have developed into a one-stop-shop for all things cool. In the spring of 2020, Krysia Strumpf decided to move to Los Angeles and she brought the business with her. We are proud to be in the heart of LA’s Arts District & we are ready to accommodate to the design needs and tastes of local clients. We’re here to make waves! As a small company, we are able to continuously refresh our selections and strive to offer our clients a refined and diverse mix of materials including tile, stone, glass, metal, wood, wall and floor paper, and responsibly sourced products. With our vast network of resources and manufacturers, D9C has the advantage and access to specialty items and will help find the right products for your project.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
With our Los Angeles business starting in 2020, like everyone else our business experienced some hard times. We had decreased sales, and promoting a new business during a pandemic is no easy feat. But, we took the opportunity of the downtime and used our time to build a gorgeous showroom in the Arts District. We are ready to catch our wave in 2021.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Division 9 Collaborative?
We pride ourselves most on our customer service. In the design world, there is so many materials to choose from – we want to take away some of the stress and make product selection easier for the Interior designer. Not only do we have a huge resource of products ranging from tile, wood, wallpaper, etc. but we have a great relationship with our reps and we can source whatever material you’re looking for. Send us your mood boards and inspiration and we’ll help you select for your project. Most of our products are imported from Spain and Italy but we have a wide selection from all over the world.

How do you think about happiness?
The LA sunshine!! I can’t tell you how good it feels to wake up to bright sunshine everyday. Boston is cold and grey 60% of the year. But on the business side – building relationships and helping my design clients makes me really happy. When you have someone come into the showroom, and they find exactly what they’re looking for – better yet, they aren’t sure what they’re looking for and they love what we select from their inspiration.
