Rising Stars: Meet Jan Metternich

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jan Metternich.

Hi Jan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started playing the guitar when I was six years old. I always loved to write my own songs. I uploaded YouTube cover songs first when I was 12 years old. In 2019, I released my first single on all platforms. The feedback was crazy. A month ago, my single “Wrong” hit 1 million streams on all platforms.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Sometimes it was quite hard but I just make music for me. I don’t really do it for the numbers. In the beginning a lot of people didn’t like my music but I never stopped.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a pop-rap musical artist. I write, produce and record all of my songs. I have no manager, label or any help. Sometimes it’s quite hard but I love it. My listeners are from all over the world and I’m really proud of my latest single. It’s not out yet. It’ll release in January. I always try to be as unique as possible and find my own sound.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think sometimes it’s a bit lucky if a single performs good or not. I would say I was quite lucky in 2020. I’m really thankful for that.
