Inspiring Conversations with Tyra Rush of Lavish Beautique

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyra Rush.

Hi Tyra, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
As a college freshman, I was not sure what I wanted to do with my life. I loved beauty, art and science but society will tell you that you have to pick. There’s no way to mix them. Along with my struggles of having multiple passions, I found myself to be conflicted with certain things pertaining to my appearance. I hated feeling like I had to rely on enhancements to feel good about myself. So one day, I decided to make a change. I took a break from wearing hair extensions and makeup, cut off my hair and stared at myself. I forced myself to look at every detail and feature on my body. I acknowledged the raw/uncut ME for the first time in a long time and decided I loved her regardless of what people would say are flaws. However, we can love ourselves and still acknowledge that there are things we can improve. While we can’t change our genetic makeup, we can find ways to naturally enhance and perfect what we already have. That is exactly what I did. I conducted tons of research and found natural remedies to address the features I wanted to beautify.

As my journey progressed, I fell in love with me for the first time. This self love rubbed off on others who could see this change and glow in me. They would compliment me in awe and ask me tons of questions about my beauty regimens. Some would even go as far as sharing deep feelings about things they wished they could improve. That was when I realized I wasn’t alone and that there are so many others out there who need the same things I needed. Most importantly, I knew I had the tools to help them. I started a YouTube channel and continued learning. The thought never crossed my mind to start a business until I came across a YouTube channel with a young lady showing a beauty business that she had started. I soon realized that science (my major) and beauty actually do play hand in hand. You can’t have one without the other and with that realization, my life changed. I had finally discovered where I belonged and what I wanted to do. In August of 2019, I began developing my brand. A company that would not play on the insecurities of others but rather empower them and gives them the tools they needed to truly love themselves. I want my customers to experience luxury because after all the doubt the world instills in us pertaining to the standard of beauty, they deserve it.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road had been far from smooth. There are so many twists and turns when you’re on the journey of entrepreneurship. Struggling to finance your business is a huge one. I also experienced other bumps in the road such as learning how to market properly, breaking off from customers who are friends and family and actually reaching a pool of individuals who have interest in what my brand has to offer. It is also challenging being the only employee my customer has. I am the owner, CEO, marketing manager, customer service representative, product manager and producer, website manager, social media manager and whatever else running a business requires. I struggle everyday to keep going but I won’t quit because I know the reward is great. Seeing the final product of what I create is always my motivation to keep going and a reminder that my dreams are coming true.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
COVID-19 has taught me that no matter what is happening in the world, nothing can stop us from being successful or achieving our goals unless we let it. Many companies made the most money during this pandemic and that says a lot about how success has no limits. As long as we do our part and take the proper precautions to ensure the safety of others, I am confident that there is nothing we can’t do even in a crisis.
