Meet Mac of Fit It Athletics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mac.

Hi Mac, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have a passion for self-care and self-love, a passion for people being comfortable in the body and the skin that they are in. I was born and raised in Inglewood, California, in Los Angeles county. I have an undergrad degree in exercise sciences from Arizona State University and a master’s degree from the University of Southern California, where I majored in Strategic Public Relations. After undergrad, I worked for an Athletic Training company called EXOS, which specializes in human performance. Also, during my time there, I became a pilates instructor. Although happy with my position and lifestyle, I was missing something, so I applied to go back to school, but this time in my hometown.

Upon returning to my hometown in the first few months, I gained too much weight for my liking, so I started training with my current trainer Ryan Kelley. I was shedding weight and getting back to the old me, but during sessions, more than a hand full of times, my pants would rip, and it was the worse! I would buy $80 and up leggings, and they would rip! I was fed up, but I never thought that I would be the one solving my issue in the future. A year later, in February of this year (2020), after another pair of expensive leggings ripped during a training session, I decided to design and produce my fitness line, Fit It Athletics. A line that specializes in comfort, performance, and style. With my fitness background, public relations skills, and passion for self-confidence, it was only right to create a brand that represented all of my passions.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
As soon as I decided to create this line, we were hit with a shut down due to COVID-19. I didn’t know how I would get this line started in the middle of a pandemic with everything shut down, but I adjusted. The shutdown was an unforeseen obstacle, but it allowed me to take my time with the product. It allowed me to develop the brand and create a quality product that my customers would love. I’ve learned that adversity and struggles come with the business, and you are never fully prepared; all you can do is adjust, adapt, and keep going. It is also essential to surround yourself with people that want to see you win; I had that in a few people, including my brother Leon and friend Cayla Renee. Two people who stayed on me and made sure I never got discouraged in developing the line.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Fit It Athletics was created for fitness lovers and athleisure wearers who seek quality, comfort, and support during their fitness or daily activities. No one wants to worry about wardrobe malfunctions while active, so Fit It Athletics was developed to prioritize functionality and fit through all its products. The brand was launched to focus on performance and style equally, where the fabric of each product is hand-picked and sewn together with purpose. We have three fits that include light compression, medium compression, and spank compression. All of the fits cater to different intensities of physical activities. Fit It Athletics is committed to inspiring the active community to choose functionality AND style by offering a range of fits while also catering to various sizes and body types for each product. The versatility of Fit It Athletics activewear is what I am most proud of; our line allows our customers to highlight their assets and embrace their bodies. The current designs are made for women, but the brand is expanding its collection to Men’s in Spring 2021.

So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is encouraging self-love, confidence, and individuality. In this day and age, it is easy to get caught up in the hype and place too much value on what one sees on social media—letting the outside world determine our life goals and aspirations. I created Fit It Athletics so that the product accentuates and enhances what the person already has. Encouraging and reminding people to love and appreciate the person in the mirror no matter where they are in their journey. Fit It Athletics is about tapping into your power and inner beast while looking good and feeling good while doing it. It’s about eliminating excuses, setting goals, and crushing them. Your goals should fit you, not anyone else; that is why #GetFitIt is not just a tagline for the brand; it is about tailoring a life that is fit for you.
