Today we’d like to introduce you to Sam and Robert Moore.
Sam and Robert, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
We started as a family homestead in 1912 with my Great Grandparents and their eight kids. The original house, built out of concretes as to keep the family safe from cattlemen burning out ranchers, is still standing to this day.
105 years later, I moved from Chatsworth, CA to join my family in opening our space to outdoor enthusiasts. After two years of working to make our ranch overnight guest ready, we finally welcomed our first guests.
We currently have 15 campsites for our guests to rent, with two hot water, fully finished restrooms and two communal fire pits/cooking areas. We have 160+ acres of nature to explore surrounded by the sand to snow monument, an extension of the Joshua Tree National park. We have three spring-fed ponds for our guests to enjoy on hot summer days after visiting the National park, which is only 15 miles up the road. The property is wooded and covered in shade from the cottonwood, willow and mesquite canopies. Because the Property is a natural oasis in attracts all types of wildlife that can be seen daily. From Mule Deer and Big Horn sheep to Bobcats, Coyotes and Foxes we have plenty of furry visitors. Snakes, rabbits, quail and all types of birds also stop in to refresh and relax. The ponds are also home to Bullfrogs that sing you to sleep at night while you gaze at the stars in the clear mountain air.
Has it been a smooth road?
Because we are in the high desert fires and flash floods have hindered our progress, destroying our 1-acre garden on more than one occasion. But they also give us an opportunity to start fresh. The year that I moved here we had a flash flood that carried over 100,000 yards of mud and debris covering over 5 acres of our space. While it swallowed our entire garden and covered the road to my house for three days, It also gave us a cleared flat start to our event area where we host weddings now.
This year has been especially difficult with the ongoing pandemic. As most small businesses, we’ve had to close our doors to guests for the majority of the year. A lot of what were are able to do and build on the property is funded by our guest’s ability to enjoy our space.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are on site full time and welcome all of our guests personally. Showing them to their space and giving them personal tours including our family history in the area is what sets us apart. We are proud to be one of the oldest families and love to tell the stories of our ancestors. The property itself is one of a kind!
