Check Out Lisa Schulte’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Schulte.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started out playing with lights and operating The Lightboard at Night Clubs. Started to add some neon in to my light show, as this was the early 80’s and had very few intelligent light systems available to me. I was very intrigued by the ability to shape and bend light so started to further my education on the mystery behind the neon lights.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Life is full of struggles, most of the struggles I look at them as lessons, I am a self-taught light artist so I just live and learn as I go. Never had the opportunity to attend a fancy art college, but I was drawn to light at a very early age due to the fact I lost sight for a couple of months when I was around nine. So gaining my sight back was a miracle of sort for me as I never wanted to live in darkness again, and I now live in a world filled with light.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a female neon artist, one of the few that has been working and living entirely from my art. I started a neon company Nights of Neon back in 1984. I filled a need for the entertainment world by creating Neon Sculpture that would become available to rent for film and television world. I would say that has been my biggest accomplishment as the company is still going strong after 35 years and I employ a team of 10 to help me with my neon sculptures. 12 years ago, I started showing my neon work in galleries and museums so that has me on another cool journey.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My crew for sure is and has always been very important to me, my clients, collectors, art galleries, studios the ones that always think of me and my company for any neon needs. My family and friends.
