Today we’d like to introduce you to Mansoor Javahery.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Mansoor. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
In 1934, I was born to a Jewish family in Tehran. At the age of 13 after a big discussion with my parents, I convinced them to send me to a boarding school in Brighton, England. After graduating from high school, I came to USA to study for a Bachelors and Masters in Chemistry and then I returned to Tehran. Within in a year, I got married to my dear wife Rebecca and got a job in the biggest Pharmaceutical Factory that was built in Tehran, Iran, by the Pahlavi Foundation. I was in charge of developing the quality control laboratories for the drugs that were manufactured in that factory. After working for a few years for the Pahlavi Foundation, I was encouraged by my family and friends to go into the cosmetics business – the idea sounded fantastic. We built a factory and under license from a British cosmetic factory to start manufacturing the product and start selling it in Iran and other Middle Eastern countries and pay royalty to the mother company. I started manufacturing Mary Quant cosmetics and a few other well-known brands at the time.
The business kept prospering, we were making a lot of money. By 1965, I was able to build 3 homes for all my family and by 1979, 40 people were working in my own factory but then disaster struck. Out of nowhere, the King and Queen of Iran were ordered to leave the country and I was advised that it was unsafe for us to stay. In fear of our safety, we left Iran in 1979 completely emptyhanded. Leaving my cosmetics factory in Iran was difficult but at the time, I felt I had no decision. I told staff that we are going on a 2 weeks’ vacation and we will be back – we hoped that the situation would change and we could return – but this didn’t happen. First, we went to London, where my wife’s parents lived and she stayed there with our daughters, and then I came to California. Somehow from my previous travels to California, I knew that someday I will come and live here. With the advice of a good friend, I bought a home in Pacific Palisades and my family came to join me in the US.
Upon arriving in California, I tried different ventures between 1979-1984 including property development and opening shops. But in 1984, I had a realization that I want to do what I know best – color cosmetics. But I asked myself how could I compete with the big cosmetic sharks of California and the rest of the world. While looking at the ocean, I began to think of it like this. There are big sharks and fish of all sizes and they are all swimming together and live in harmony without any problems in the ocean – each fish is unique and has its special qualities that allows it to survive in the big ocean. I thought I must create a line of high-quality cosmetics that will be very unique to itself and affordable. I decided that instead of spending huge amounts on advertising, we can offer more affordable products. With all these above ideas, I started the VIP cosmetics. And fortunately, with all the ups and downs in the economy, I have been able to prosper and grow to where I am today.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have been in the cosmetics industry for decades and it has been a fulfilling and exciting path. I must admit that without the help of my dear wife Rebecca, with her wise advice and great judgement, things would not have gone as smoothly as they have.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with VIP Cosmetics – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
VIP Cosmetics offers lots of variety. We offer a range of lipsticks, lip liners, eye pencils, eye shadows and much more. VIP Cosmetics are hypoallergenic and are not tested on animals. This sets us apart from many other big brand names.
What also sets us apart is the fact that VIP Cosmetics are inspired by the beautiful nature in LA. Many ideas for new lipstick and eye makeup shades come from watching the stunning Pacific Palisade sunset over the ocean.
In this vast ocean of cosmetic sharks in this country, we stay competitive by spoiling our customers with unique, high-quality products manufactured in Europe and US at affordable prices.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I have been so busy getting things going that I haven’t been able to plan ahead! But there are definitely many exciting things ahead for VIP Cosmetics.
