Meet Lori Jean Glass of Pivot

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Jean Glass.

Hi Lori Jean, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My family roots run deep in the coal rich hills of West Virginia, it’s a part of the country where resilience is not admired but required to survive. I was forced to confront this reality early in life when I went to the lake with my father and watched him drown in front of my eyes, helpless to intervene, too young to understand. Later in my teenage years, another surprise reality was forced upon me – my mother took her life to run from the pain that resided inside of her. I was completely overwhelmed by the magnitude of what the losses would mean until many years later, after going through two failed marriages, addiction, sexual abuse, then one day my own life was threatened by my own hand. My soul hit a bottom. The resilience that I needed to persevere and push through to become an emotionally healthy adult helped me survive. My life work became helping others do the same.

As I began my healing process, I realized that just talking alone about what was going on for me was not enough. I wanted to be able to live life understanding and respecting what Eckhart Towle calls the painbody wound that lived inside of me and got activated easily. I wanted to begin to have healthier relationships. Including the one, I had with myself. I was tired of neglecting myself and living in the shame and guilt. I was a victim and I wanted to unload that energy and take my power back. I was a brand and image consultant at the time and had been successful in business from the ability to push through just about anything. I began to research everything I could get my hands on about attachment, anxiety, depression, etc. I learned quickly that people were often over assessed and undertreated. I developed a hunger to find answers to help others. I started taking classes, educating myself and became a relationship, life, and bereavement coach. This is where PIVOT comes in. I started working ten years ago at a facility called Five Sisters Ranch as the executive director of clinical operations where I started developing the PIVOT Process.

With the help of a clinical team, we began testing this curriculum to help others live healthier lives. After working there for eight years and helping a lot of people, the founder decided to retire. I took my process out into the world by developing an online program and a training academy to certify relationship coaches who go into homes and businesses virtually or in person to help people achieve what our tagline says; think better, feel better, and live better. As Covid 19 hit this past year, we were prepared and ready to help people online navigate the complexities that were non-negotiable. Couples who never spent a lot of time together. Parents who were thrown into teaching jobs. Loneliness that was triggering early childhood abandonment wounds. And, the list goes on… So many people live in silent suffering. The pain of the past or present relational issues get pushed down deep and come out sideways – usually on the people who we care about the most. Unrealistic expectations driven by untreated relational wounds pop up and cause people to engage in drama that ignites old trauma and the cycle rinses and repeats.

Before I got healthy in relationships, I was taking people hostage to my pain without even knowing it. What I mean by that is my expectations of loved ones were unrealistic. I wanted them to prove to me that they would not abandon me. I realized quickly that everyone has their own story and the healing process needs to honor each and every person. There is no one way to heal. The individualized process does just that – honors everyone’s storyline and attachment style. I take readers through what developmental psychology looks like in my book, #HealthyAdult. Relational change doesn’t have to be so complicated regardless of how big the climb appears to be. This is not minimizing one’s experiences; it is important to know for yourself. If you want relational change, you can have it if you are willing to dig deep and help yourself make better choices. Some of you may be affected by betrayal, confusion, neglect, disregard, rejection, feeling controlled, unseen, unheard, and so on. There are so many mental health labels that are used that end up leaving people in complete confusion about how to really help themselves.

Having a perfect body won’t heal your relational wounds. Finding the perfect partner in life will activate what is not healed. Excessive exercise will eventually catch up to you when your body responds with imploded untreated emotions that results in physical breakdown. Even a spiritual relationship needs to be tended to – not avoided or neglected if you want it to help you. I have a lot of clients in the LA area and the pressure itself that people feel individually to look and feel a certain way creates internal disintegration. PIVOT provides clients with effective ways to improve relationships and shift, or better yet, pivot, relational challenges swiftly. We work with people who want to have positive outcomes in relationships and create behavioral change. We offer weekly coaching, personal day long intensives, and 5-day small group retreats.

The results allow our clients to approach life in reality with clarity, resulting in healthier connections. Simple is our superpower. We aim to help access your own relational change process in real-time. Knowhow to apply rational thinking, emotional intelligence, and healthy actions congruently. This is what I call Relational Alignment! It’s an energetic adjustment you make that is customized for you. The more we individually take responsibility for being healthy adults, the greater chance there is for peace in the world. I believe that peace is one of the highest levels of consciousness—even higher than love. With peace, we can truly feel love and be comfortable with those around us.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggle is communicating what we do from a marketing standpoint and for me personally, the biggest struggle has been learning how to be an effective leader! Our high impact solutions are so appreciated by our clients. Marketing and communicating how effective we are without saying that general therapy once a week is not working for many people is hard – Traditional therapy is giving them a place to talk about their individual pain -which is necessary however keeps many people stuck or repeating the behavior. And, couples are in therapy that ends up being a non-stop emotional bombing tennis match. We don’t want to upset the world of therapy or suggest that it is not useful. There are many great therapists. The challenge is that many of them are not providing high impact solutions that are creating behavioral change. And, many people are getting labeled and then googling the labels and landing in a sea of confusion.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are known for our HIGH IMPACT solutions to meet everyday current challenges. One of our brand personality words is current. We deal with current issues and connect the dots on how the past also influences what is currently impacting us. We have people who are going through a divorce, being ghosted by an on-line relationship which started in COVID, trouble finding a job and keeping it, family issues, etc. So proud of our outcomes! We really do change people’s lives through the process. For $120 a week you can get a coach for an hour session and have access to email and texting with your coach between sessions – when all the s#%t happens! We help in real-time.

Also, each session comes with a piece of the curriculum so our clients are engaged thoroughly. We recently partnered with Tribe Kelley which is a USA made clothing brand founded and operated by the wife-husband duo, Brittney and Brian Kelley (of Florida Georgia Line Duo). The brand is a collection of transitional fashion pieces which now includes the FEELS collection! Brittney has become an activist in helping people understand their own mental health. When she was introduced to PIVOT, the impact it had on her birthed the idea of launching a scholarship program to offer small tribes of people the chance to understand themselves in relationships from a mental health perspective. When someone purchases an item from the Feels Collection, it will allow someone to join a PIVOT Tribe. You can get all the information to shop the feels collection by visiting www.tribekelley.com. We could all use some happy feels!

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I love so many! Spotify is my favorite app! LOL. Music speaks to my soul and helps motivate and soul. I like Oprah’s and David Letterman’s interviews. I currently listen to Gabriel Berstein’s podcasts and also love anything by Eckhart Towle.
