Today we’d like to introduce you to Abigail Fraher.
Abigail, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I moved to LA with $500 and a craigslist roommate (who later stole my identity, listen to your parents, don’t find roommates on Craigslist, HAHA).
I moved here to be a broadcaster, I knew not one person in this crazy, loud, lonely city. I took a job as a nanny for a deaf bi-polar mother of two and emailed any contact I could find for hosting opportunities. Thats when I found After Buzz TV. I applied and auditioned to their program and was accepted! From there, I focused on honing my craft and switched my day job to management at an LA hair salon chain. From there, I cohosted a popular Empire After Show, along with multiple after shows for MTV; interviewed the likes of Sharon Stone, Super Duper Kyle, Adam Devine, Jussie Smollett, Taraji P. Henson and so many more A-list stars. During that time, I pivoted my day job (again) and began my career as a Manager of a popular LA Medical Spa. During that time, I continued to grow my skill set as a host, as well as my social media presence. Over the last two years, I was promoted in my job to Executive Director of the multi-million dollar med spa chain, move on from After Buzz TV, and joined one of my former co-hosts on his podcast, #Adulting as the co-host. #Adulting has really molded me into where I am at this moment as a host. The podcast has been in iTunes top 100.
This year has been especially rewarding, as we picked up an agent and joined A3 (formerly Abrams artist Agency) as talent, and recently signed a deal with Roku as the first podcast to be available on their streaming device! You can now watch us as we tape and interview guests! During this time of crazy growth, I also developed my own line of loungewear, Basic by AF. We specialize in the “basics”, like sweatshirts, sweatsuits and scrunchies. All items have an Abigail AF vibe that I actually wear, in quality materials. We sold out in all our designs and are currently rebooting for winter! I recently checked my latest goal off my list, as I am now bi-coastal working between NYC and LA for my Med Spa company, dr LASER. As dark as life seems during this time, there have been so many incredible things for me to be thankful for.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
HAHA. NO. The road has been ROUGH. The struggles I faced in the beginning were experience, money, not know where to start in a city where relationships and who you know are the literal interviews, oh and money, again. Personal relationships have also been an incredible struggle. From boyfriends to friends that use you, to people who are fake, as wonderful as LA is, it is hard. The largest struggle I faced was insecurity; am I good enough, am I pretty enough, am I cool enough, is my waist small enough, is my ass fat enough, am I successful enough, am I rich enough, am I happy enough? All these things are questions everyone faces daily, I do think that in the environment that is LA, every insecurity is on steroids. I am so grateful for the intensity of all of these though because they make you, or they break you, or YOU BREAK THEM. And I am so secure in myself and who I am thanks to the struggles put in my way.
Please tell us about BasicbyAF.
I am across the board known for my outgoing, unwavering authenticity to myself, what I believe and what moves me.
Basic by AF: Loungewear line known for quality, comfort, and being made one piece at a time by my hands.
#Adulting: Top rated podcast with grit, humor, and lessons for people today who want to be the best Adult version of themselves.
Dr LASER: A top-rated medspa with 6 locations from LA to NYC, specializing in helping EVERYONE put their best skin forward.
I am so proud of the grind the hustle and the drive that I put into all three of the businesses that make me who I am and help to turn me into who I want to be.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have jumped in headfirst without worrying about what others thought of me. I would have went to college in LA to help begin networking earlier, and I would have trusted people less. I would have cared less about the hype of the night scene, and I would have come to terms with my WHYS and end goals sooner.
