Today we’d like to introduce you to Bety Boom.
Hi Bety, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a 28 years old self-made singer, songwriter and producer. I’ve been writing music and poetry since I was a young kid and have always loved to rap and sing. My friends always asked me how I knew the words to every song, and I wish I could tell you. Music is ingrained in my life breathing and sleeping. It wasn’t until I got my first Mac in 2018 that I had the chance to bring the songs in my head to life. I had no idea what I was doing, but with the help of the Internet and some pretty amazing friends, I knew I would figure it out. I turned my coat closet in my apartment into my very own home studio. Being a single woman living on my own in the Bay Area, it was safe to say I couldn’t afford much. But being a natural born hustler, I was able to save, bargain, and was gifted all the equipment I needed to get started.
I began with Garage Band, stumbled into Reason, and fall in love with Logic. I was doing pretty well despite the fact that I couldn’t mix or master to save my life. Thank Goodness for Bootini, Club 102 and Dj Mike. Not only did they buy me my first mic and set of monitors, they helped me problem solve and troubleshoot any bump I ran into. Once I met Okanekyler, Los Alva, and Jorden Kyle it was a wrap. They taught me everything technical I needed to know and I have been unstoppable ever since. Three years, 1 Soundcloud, 4 Spotify albums, and 1 1/2 music videos later, and I am still in love with what I do. I don’t need the fame, maybe the fortune, but the most important part to me is the potential to make somethings that reaches someone that thought no one understood what they were going through. If I can help just one person through my music, I can die a happy woman.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Anything can be hard to learn, but it’s even harder to teach yourself something you don’t know. With a lack of extra funds and no funding for school, it has been a struggle to learn the technical abilities needed to make my music sound professional and consistent. Everything costs money, and if you don’t have it, too bad. I wasn’t gonna let that stop me. I researched and practiced, and practiced some more until I figure out how to make it sound right. I still kind of feel like I have no idea what I’m doing, but I know how to make it sound like I need to. Not to mention there are so many aspects to marketing yourself and creating a fan base that it’s a bit overwhelming. I have the product, I have talent, and I have the look. But how do I get people to find me?
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am like nobody you have ever met before. Most people couldn’t survive the life I’ve lived, let alone come out not on drugs, jail, or just mentally destroyed. All of the things that I’ve experienced have blessed me with a beautiful sense of humility and empathy. My crakhead energy, big smile, and bright light are inescapable. I have a way of connecting and communicating with people that will make you feel like we’ve known each other our whole lives. The things that I talk about in my music, the beats that I make, the feeling that you get when you listen. It’s all of me. I put 110% go me into my music. When you listen, you are learning me. We are forming a bond and a beautiful friendship.
What are your plans for the future?
I plan to continue to be courageous and creative and find new ways to express myself. I have made so many musician friends this year that the collaborations to come are just unimaginable. I am excited to open myself up to more people artist and create together. I don’t want to do it all alone anymore. My friends have already inspired me so much I can feel my music growing and changing. Having just formed a new partnership with one of the dopest videographers in the Bay Area, it’s time to give the world the dope Bety Boomin visuals it deserves. Be prepared for the hottest, most cinematic creatives joining forces to create art.
