Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Alexis.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Christine. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Like every great story, let’s start from the beginning! I grew up in Brooklyn, NY and moved to Los Angeles five years ago to pursue a career in entertainment hosting. As a kid, I always loved great storytelling and when I wasn’t reading every book I could get my hands on, I’d be writing poetry and fan fiction with one of my older sisters as a creative outlet. My early bookworm tendencies would later turn into a deep appreciation for journalism. After getting my Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Brooklyn College, I took off to the West Coast for an adventure. I’ve been lucky enough to land some awesome opportunities since moving here that allowed me to get my feet wet as a red carpet reporter and now a Staff Writer for a major pop culture and entertainment news outlet. I also model, act, and do a little photography as my hobby! A Jane of all trades, if you will. I just love connecting with people and creating cool content!
I’d say a major turning point came in 2016 when I came across AfterBuzz TV, a network of creatives started by Maria Menounos and Keven Undergaro, it was there that I truly learned how to hone my craft as an on-air personality and interview some of the industry’s brightest stars. It quickly felt like confirmation that I made the right choice to leave home and follow my dreams.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh, it definitely has not been a smooth road! I struggled a lot during my first year living on my own. I stayed home for college, so moving clear across the country to try and “make it” was a huge dose of reality that I wasn’t fully prepared for, but really needed to become who I am today. I didn’t have enough money to sustain a move. I didn’t have a job lined up. I luckily had a place to crash with my sister who arrived almost two years before I did, but ultimately, I was winging it!!! I had to work so many odd jobs to just barely make ends meet. Food delivery, driving for Lyft, receptionist and assistant work. I was BROKE broke. I also struggled with my confidence while being in an intimidating, new environment that I wasn’t very familiar with yet. I’m so grateful that my faith in God and some amazing people I met along the way got me through those early dark days — and still continue to get me through them today. I know the path that I’m on will throw even more obstacles my way, but they’re all polishing me into the best version of the woman I know I am inside.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I’m a host and writer who’s passionate about pop culture, TV/Film, sports, music, and what society is talking about! My ability to transform any news story in a conversational and relatable way is what connects me to and engages my audience. I offer services as a freelance writer, reporter, and photographer. My ultimate goal is to build a connection with my followers that’s based on authenticity and trust. I want to be a face/personality that people look forward to seeing on their TV screens when I eventually step into my dream job as a daytime talk show host. Stay tuned!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I believe the fact that I’m a natural-born hustler is very important to my success. There’s no challenge too big or difficult for me if I put my mind to it! Through my experiences, I’ve also learned that you HAVE to be your own biggest cheerleader. No one is going to have your back more than you are and I changed for the better once I embraced that fact. At the risk of sounding extremely cliché, I truly believe you catch more bees with honey. I try my absolute best to approach every opportunity and person I meet with a dose of realism, but mainly with the mindset that things are going to work out for the greater good. It’s a personal mantra of mine that has always led me to exactly where I need to be.
