Today we’d like to introduce you to Sebastien Lagree.
Sebastien, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I came to Los Angeles to pursue acting. I became a personal trainer to support my acting ambition. The personal training business took off so rapidly that I decided to focus on that instead. I opened my first studio on 9/11/01 in the living room of my apartment. Since then, we have grown to over 500 locations throughout the world. Lagree was voted #1 workout on ClassPass in 2019 out of 100 million purchase! We have now extended our presence in the home workout market.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Success is not easy; it’s plagued with obstacles that you must learn to navigate around. I have an MBA and believe me, the MBA couldn’t prepare me for the roller coaster ride that any entrepreneur must go through. You must have a strong sense of self to push through year after year as the challenges change. You are never set and must be on the constant lookout. It’s pretty exhausting, you must have the skills set to handle it.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lagree Fitness story. Tell us more about the business.
Lagree Fitness is a new fitness method which delivers a high intensity but low impact workout. It was created by me, Sebastien Lagree, and has evolved in the past 22 years to a full body, Core, Muscular Strength and Muscular Endurance training method. Lagree is the only fitness company in the world to have a patent on a full-body workout (using the Supra). The method is based on many internal researches and studies, as well as already established facts and science, and thousands of repeated sessions. The method has changed over the past 22 years and continues to change as we evolve our machinery. We are known for our Megaformer which has become the benchmark in my industry. I am proud of creating a fitness method that is now enjoyed by millions of people around the world.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
You create your own luck, and we do this on an ongoing basis such as when Covid hits, we already had a solution for our clients, trainers, and licensees. Many thought that the release of the Micro was good timing or luck; instead it was carefully planned a year earlier. I am always thinking ahead and I am always creating new workouts and equipment. I have become a Master in that domain.
