

Today we’d like to introduce you to Patrick Nguyen.
Patrick, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In a nutshell. I grew up in the restaurant biz all my life. Worked at a few Italian restaurants along the way. Learned a lot about passion for food. I later on became a bartender. And when the opportunity came, I wanted to create a dine in dessert experience for our guests that combined the culinary, bartending, and artistic aspect into a handcrafted milkshake. In doing so, I wanted to create a modern nostalgia but for to today.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s been very rough, But I love it, I embrace it. I learned that the successful ones are the ones that find a way to battle the grind and never give up.
The Straw Modern Milkshakes – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Straw Modern Milkshakes is a handcrafted milkshake parlor and a bar. We have alcoholic and non-alcoholic milkshakes. Vegan Options are also available.
What do we do best? We see our milkshakes as more than just tastes. Our goal is to ignite all of the senses when you arrive at the Straw. Sight, tastes, sound. feel and smell.
What really separates us from our competitors is that we treat our milkshakes and our parlor no different than any other chef with passion for food. We are willing to put more work into our shakes and try to avoid short cuts on flavor because the pallet will eventually know if you’re trying to fool it with only artificial flavors. For example, we have a milkshakes called “La Bella Donna” which is a Tiramisu milkshake. We could easily just buy tiramisu syrup, blend it with ice cream sell it to the guests and call it a day, but instead we actually make Tiramisu with lady fingers, mascarpone cheese and espresso. Then we blend it with hand scooped ice cream. We then garnish it with whipped cream and our signature pastry that’s puff pastry that also looks like a french fry for the guest to dip into the shake. Like like how ice cream and a cone work, our milkshakes and our puff pastry go together.
But besides the flavbor , on certain nights we’ve hosted Speed Dating, Car Meets, DJ sets and Live music.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is being true to yourself despite the naysayers and watch who comes on top. Belief in one’s stuff is success.
