Meet Ella Collier

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ella Collier.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ella. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It sounds corny, but ever since I could walk I was a performer. My parents used to make me have moments of silence. As I grew into my childhood, I would perform in my basement for the thousands of people in my mind. I started with musical theater and loved it, I would credit my stage presence to that and my early mentors at that time.

I got into music seriously when I was 11 years old. I started writing songs on guitar at 11, performing anywhere I could in my hometown, Atlanta, Georgia. I performed in Atlanta, New York, Nashville, Texas, and Los Angeles. I have known I wanted to do this with my life since I was little. I ended up selling out Eddie’s Attic (where John Mayer got discovered) right before I left To University Of Southern California in LA, so it felt really cool to leave on that note.

Now I am 20 years old. I have a single coming out October 30 called “cinderella” that I am so excited about. This song feels different because it is the start of my new era. I know who I am now and I’m excited to share all the intricacies of who I am to the world because I can almost 100% bet everyone feels the same. My songs range from personal relationships as well as where my headspace is on any given day. I like the take my listeners through a journey that they end up relating to more than they ever thought they would from something so personal from me. I never planned to go to college, but USC’s Pop Program has catapulted me to where I need to be with incredible collaborators, mentors, and crucial lessons in all aspects of the industry. I met my producer Johnny May in our songwriting class and now we are making the best music we have ever made and the public is receiving and will receive it really well. I am so blessed for the opportunities that have come from Los Angeles and USC.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Not at all, and I don’t expect it to get easier! I think God puts challenges in your path to prepare you for bigger things in life, so when I have professional and personal struggles, I try to look at them from a learning and growth perspective.

Through middle and high school, I was always the odd one out, the one doing “too much”. I had girls have interventions with me about my career and how I was showing off. I was isolated for knowing what I wanted from a young age. The industry is not much different. It is an everyday grind getting people to hear you and listen to you. It is a struggle to create trusting relationships and not get caught up in all the glitter and gold of LA, which is not very shiny when you get close. You have to push and push and believe in yourself more than anyone else because at the end of the day, you are the only one who can make it happen. The struggles have taught me how special my collaborative relationships are as well as my friendships in music. If people don’t love the music and the people who create it and they are not happy, what is the point? I always want everyone who meets me to feel like they are loved and part of my family because that is truly what it is all about.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a singer, songwriter, artist and performer. I write all of my music and plan to perform it for millions around the world. I want to inspire people to be who they truly are and take them to their most confident headspace. I also want music to be appreciated and artistry to be appreciated and properly compensated for in the long run, that is why I plan to open my own company after my time as an international recording artist. My music is authentic and so is my brand. My brand is 100% me. I am not like other artists where I created a false persona, in fact, my music is all of my personas and moods that makeup who I am. My audience knows me like their best friend and that is how I always want it to be. I want to give people the best experience, whether they come front row to a show or listen to 30 seconds of my music, I want them to be impacted by their experience with me in the most positive way.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Literally nothing. I feel like everything that has happened in my life has prepared me for the future and will continue to. I also feel like the struggles, great moments, even the mundane ones have taught me who I am. The most important part of this journey was finding who I really am and living with her and taking it into my adult life and career.
