Today we’d like to introduce you to Tania Bambridge.
So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I was born to design and create. I studied art in grade school and junior college, transitioned to fashion school and gained a degree in fashion design. I worked hard in the apparel industry for 20+ years and gained a ton of knowledge and experience that laid the groundwork for launching me into the world of freelancing and running my own small business.
Running my business has involved pivoting as needed to keep things fresh and exciting. The decisions I have made have been intentional and challenging, and I have no regrets. Running a small business is a daily learning experience and I always keep an open mind, pay attention to what the universe tells me, and have fun! Currently, I am in the midst of taking baby steps to create and launch my new eCommerce site and I am super excited. I have always had a website that touched the surface of what my brand is all about and told my story, however, this is going to take it to the next level. My focus is on aprons, fashionable and functional, and eventually I will sprinkle in some tabletop textiles and home decor. I am building my line organically at a steady pace, and I foresee a soft launch happening in Q1 of 2021 if all goes well.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Self-employment is definitely not for the faint of heart. I was born to be challenged and when I am not challenged, I don’t feel alive. Being born under the Aries sign, I am strong-willed and I take on whatever is presented to me. I actually excel under pressure. It has not been an easy road, but no pain no gain is very true in my world. I love to work hard and play hard. Finance is typically at the top of list when it comes to a small business struggle, but I have learned to let go and let the universe guide me. That took me years to learn and it is indeed true that timing is everything. Creativity cannot be forced, so I don’t force it. Balance is key and something I work very hard at to maintain. I also stay positive always, things can always be worse.
elle B see – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a designer and artist. I have the ability and experience to design, develop, and handcraft most things apparel in soft textiles. I have designed women’s, men’s, and children’s clothing. I have designed and made wedding dresses. I have designed and made throw blankets. I have designed and up-cycled apparel for people and pets. A few years ago, I decided to focus on aprons and the likes. I am an industrious person and love aprons.
As a child, I wore my Mother’s apron whilst baking, then eventually cooking. What I remind my customers is that aprons are a kitchen uniform yes, but also for gardening, painting, crafting, creating, vending, and then some. I chose this market for those reasons and I feel the possibilities are endless.
What sets me apart from others is that I am a visionary that listens to my customers and pays attention to the market always. That comes from my corporate conditioning and is very important. I stand my ground but always keep a pulse on the heart of culture and the likes. To grow, one must be flexible and have an open mind.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success comes from within, period. As long as I feel good about my work, it will transpire. My idea of being successful involves good physical and mental health first and foremost, the ability to be creative and make my own decisions, the opportunity to share my work with people, and of course reaping rewards.
