Today we’d like to introduce you to Voula Tsiboukas.
Voula, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Let be thy medicine and medicine be thy food, ~Hippocrates~ This is how my story somehow began.
I moved from Greece on November 2014 after a proposal that have been made by my cousin Efthemios Tsiboukas to open a business in the area of South Bay that will represent my life style. I grew up in the blessed land of Greece by a family that still owns a farm. From the other side my cousin is into restaurant business from the day he was born.
Even though I was working to pharmaceutical industry for 14 years my nutrition and family culture taught me that healthy fresh food is only what you need to remain strong and energetic.
The proposal of my cousin and now also partner in juicing, after some serious thoughts and concerns have been accepted and here we are Rock n Juice is here with 2 locations open, one in Torrance (3730 PCH Torrance CA 90505) one in San Pedro (2470 S. Western Ave. San Pedro CA 90732) and one opening in June in Redondo (1811-B S. Catalina Ave. Redondo Beach CA 90277).
I love juicing and healthy nutrition; my goal is the way I feed and treat myself to do it for our customers. I visit every single day both our locations to make sure that quality remains the same.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Reset your life from zero sounds pretty interesting but every beginning has its difficulties. Moving from Europe to the states was the first of the challenges that I had to deal with. We are raised and cultured very different in Europe (especially in Mediterranean area) and that was maybe one of my first struggles, to adjust myself into the new environment that I chose to move to.
The business from the other side was my second and very interesting struggle/challenge, to introduce and convince the fast food consumers of South Bay healthy nutrition with a very interesting pallet of flavors.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Rock n Juice – what should we know?
Rock n Juice represents love, love for nutrition, love for music, love for life. Being healthy it doesn’t mean that you have to be boring.
We have created a menu which according to our sales seems that can satisfy a variety of different types of consumers.
In our menu, you can find raw-non-pasteurized cold pressed juices which are made in one of our locations, fresh made juices, smoothies, wellness shots and of course our famous acai bowls.
We are not cheap and we respect our customers that supports us daily since the first day we opened our doors of our first location in Torrance on November 2015.
Since then we have built a good customer base but mostly we have built healthier people and strong relationships.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Nothing would have happened if we did not act as a team. Of course, I had and still have great support of my cousins Maria and Efthemios Tsiboukas.
Maria and I always work as one unit, we are talking and take all necessary decisions for our growth together.
Efthemios is the man power I count on him and I respect his experience and knowledge in to restaurant business. I have respect and only respect for him as a personality and as a very successful businessman that is growing with secure steps every day.
Also, my uncle Alex Tsiboukas (father of Efthemios Tsiboukas) is one of my greatest mentors, him and his twin brother Chris moved from Greece in the beginning of 70s and starting like scratch build a little empire of restaurants. His love for food, his very sharp brain and his loyalty and love for his family is my guidance to this new startup of mine.
Last and very important is Rock n Juice Crew, without this crew Rock n Juice would never be able to grow, our people is like family to us. Together we support and help each other to make this company strong.
