Meet Ciara Brown of The Diamond Hanger in Sherman Oaks

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ciara Brown.

Ciara, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
While in college, I was re-selling designer clothing on eBay to make extra money. My e-commerce store grew quickly and I was able to move my business into a warehouse. In 2017, I won Ebay’s Young Entrepreneur Award. https://www.ebayinc.com/company/partner-to-sellers/meet-our-sellers/ciara-brown/

After falling in love with the concept of true vintage fashion, I moved from San Diego to Los Angeles in order to create a true vintage fashion brand and my very own website thediamondhanger.comWe now have a private showroom located in Sherman Oaks, CA. Our online customers will often book appointments to try on special vintage pieces in person. Stylists and influencers often pull pieces for editorial shoots, music videos, and television shows.

Whether you are aiming to channel past generations of high-fashion or searching for a diamond in the rough, we have something just for you. The Diamond Hanger’s collection includes rare garments from the 1980s and 1990s eras. We work around the clock to carefully hand-pick each piece, ensuring only the highest quality pieces are added to your wardrobe. Our showroom is often visited by noteworthy stylists and rare garments have been featured in several fashion publications. Sustainability we recycle clothing in an effort to reduce energy, waste and carbon footprints.

Has it been a smooth road?
I never intended to have a clothing store at first. Re-selling was just fun for me and it became a hobby of mine while I was in college. I realized that if I took it seriously as a career, I could actually make a decent living so I busted my butt to teach myself about what sells etc. I became self-employed right out of college and reinvested every dollar I made back into my store so that it could grow larger. I didn’t have anyone to guide me, so I had to teach myself how to do a lot of things that I didn’t know how to do.

Since every piece is one of a kind, selling vintage fashion requires a ton of work and patience. Each and every item needs to be curated, photographed, stored and shipped. It is all worthwhile after seeing how happy our customers are. It is fulfilling to see these special pieces circulating back into the hands of people that have a true love for quality vintage fashion!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Diamond Hanger story. Tell us more about the business.
I am most proud at how much we have grown. I hope to open up a retail store on Melrose Avenue!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Yes absolutely. Vintage fashion is one of the fastest-growing. 84% of clothing ends up in landfills. Fashion industry waste statistics. https://edgexpo.com/fashion-industry-waste-statistics/
