Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany McCarthy.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
For many years I always wanted an eyelash company and to write children’s books. I just never had the courage to actually do it, until now. Being a single mom, you realize all the superpowers you really have. Have a child is the start of doing things new, learning as you go, and making your own rules. Most importantly, it was the best time for me to understand that I can still make dreams a reality.
My daughter and I love to color. I mean, we can color all day if we could. What I notice was most of our coloring books did not represent minorities. She loved to pick out the coloring books with little girl faces and doll babies on the cover. She is also smart by the age of two, she knew all her colors, alphabets, shapes and numbers. This is what sparked the birth of our first coloring book series. We incorporated minority faces on the cover, alphabets, shapes, words and numbers into the coloring book for all ages.
Take one look at me and you can tell I am a lash girl. I love wearing lashes! I get compliments all the time about my lashes and decided that it was time to make my own line. The coloring book was for my daughter, but the lash company was personal it was for myself. For a few months, I shopped all over the world to find the perfect lash for me and my company. I wore everyday a new lash style just to feel the texture, the flow, the comfort and experience my customers will receive for the lash. I handpicked and wore every lash style I sale on my website. I love them all.
Today, I have four coloring books that are sold on Amazon. Our latest coloring book was Amazon top seller for the week. My eyelashes are sold on my website and are doing amazing. I am so thankful for all my supporters thus far.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road for me. Yes, I had the vision of birthing the companies but it all started out from a broken heart. No women waked up in the morning and decided to be a single mom. But, I did decide to walk away from a relationship that was not good for myself, business and my daughter. Feeling so much depression from a broken heart and still putting on a happy face for my friends and family, staying strong for my daughter and most of all trying to be a business women for a two small business. My first issue of coloring books I was having paper quality issues with my first manufactory. I was so upset because I was past my deadline and this pushed my launch date back. With my eyelash line it was more so my website I couldn’t get it to be Brittany standards, still to this day, I’m not too happy with it, but it’s my baby and I love it. In the future, I will work more on it. My focus is the actual product and I think my lashes are the best.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My story sets me aside from others. My main focus is to help mothers all over from beauty to play and learning time with your child. I am proud that I am able to produce these two projects by myself while being a single mother and having a full-time job.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Courage to do a passion project. The strength to continue through heartbreak and tough times. Most of the knowledge, knowing that God got me.
