Meet Manpreet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Manpreet.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been actively singing and writing songs for over 20 years. I’m 99% self-taught, I took one year of voice coaching in my late teens (because I wanted to sing like Bon Scott), and taught myself how to play guitar. I was a punk rocker, so I started with writing simple three-chord punk songs. Eventually, I started to record them in GarageBand on one of those old white MacBooks. Things began to evolve when I discovered Kundalini Yoga and Meditation in 2006, I knew I had discovered my “Answer”. My whole life changed for the better, and when I eventually took my first Kundalini Yoga teacher training in 2011, I knew my musical direction had changed. I dove deep into learning about the mantra technology associated with the Kundalini Yoga practice- I befriended it, cultivated my voice with it, and released my first full-length album in early 2020.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My only obstacles were in my mind. It took some time for me to build my energy and confidence to a point where I could start and complete the process of recording an album. It requires endurance! The bumps along the way always stemmed from my own state of balance. So when I would experience self-doubt or self-criticism, naturally I’d get stuck creatively. I’ve learned along to way not to give much weight to the negative side of my mind- turns out insecurity isn’t productive or useful in the creative process! One of the most useful practices I’ve learned as an artist is knowing when to move on if an idea isn’t working. Forcing an idea can stifle the creative flow, and the creative energy must flow!

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am an artist, yogi, and musician. I specialize in teaching people to relax via Kundalini Yoga, Meditation, and Sacred Chanting. These tools help people so much and I feel really happy when I see people start to grow and gain inspiration towards their life’s purpose. I’m currently working on tracks for my second album.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Number one- Self reverence. Drop the insecurity! Free yourself from yourself, and you will discover infinite creative possibilities in all that you do. Number two- Persistence. Just keep going. Some days I’m super productive, others not so much, but I’ve learned to just keep doing the thing and not to judge my productivity. Throw away the “shoulds” and “coulds”, And just DO. Everything will fall together exactly as it’s meant to be.
