Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Ramsdell.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The journey of my business took me down multiple routes and the majority of them I focus on. I first moved out to LA in hopes of being a famous dancer and actress and then eventually opening up my own dance studio. Never did I expect that I would be working for a SaaS (Software as a Solution) company. Don’t get me wrong, the passion to dance is still there but I love taking on new challenges and pushing myself to grow.
As any dancer can relate with, sometimes dance jobs aren’t consistent so many of us work secondary jobs to pay the bills. My first job out of college was to work for the administration offices for the college I attended. Woah, I got some great job experience there and especially having a flexible schedule, gold! But I wasn’t happy because there was no room for my to grow within the company. From then on, I hopped around to different retail companies, moved into management roles, worked for an online retailer where I assisted in sourcing products and marketing. All companies promised growth but there was nowhere to go.
I stumbled on my current job by chance. My dad recommended I look into the company he worked for knowing my sales and marketing background. Since I was so unhappy where I was, I thought “Why not? I have nothing to lose”. I can say I’ve been happily employed for almost 1.5 years. How many people can say they love what they do?!
Not only have I determined that I want to move into a sales role but I currently have a job that gives me the ability to make six figures in my mid-twenties. It’s hard work but know I don’t have a cap to my success. I’m thriving because of the challenge.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I’ve definitely dealt with challenges. At times I felt like I gave up on my passion of dance. Dance carried me through growing up and expressing my creative desires. It has given me many opportunities to work with some of my favorite artists and be on TV. All very cool achievements but I was unable to live comfortably, hence why I had to seek other additional careers.
On top of mental pressure from myself, I had some health problems along the way I had to sort through. Last year I was experiencing some internal bleeding which led to a long line of testing, multiple doctors, and I was hit with the possibility of the “C” word. My family’s medical history has a long line of cancer and I’ve lost three family members to it and I can only pray my aunt can push through. I’m happy to say I don’t have it but now I’m now having to be aware my growth doesn’t return.
It never helps being multiple states away from your family especially during these hard times. I’m so grateful to them and my mini family I’ve built since being out in LA who’ve been able to keep me motivated. We can’t all make it through alone.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with BlackLine – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
So high-level, my company provides a solution that automates and provides visibility to the financial close. Most typical accounting processes are manual and time-consuming. We provide a platform that they can not only cut their days to close the books but also pairs with any GL/ERP system.
My position is in Business Development. I sit in between Marketing and Sales team to be the first face most companies see to provide insight into the solution and able to facilitate next steps and introductions to further the sale cycle. I work with the South Central Enterprise team and have brought many recognizable names to evaluate our software. What sets me apart is my ability to make friends in the process. There is a running joke in my department that I don’t meet prospects, I make friendships. I have a very different personality for sales but it’s proven to be effective with makes long-lasting business relationships.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Besides moving down the path into sales, I have a couple of different business endeavors. Most people don’t know that I’m also a makeup artist. I love special FX and beauty makeup. Sadly due to the pandemic (a reoccurring theme) I am unable to continue working.
I’m also continuing my stage combat training as soon as the pandemic subsides. I was supposed to be taking classes and receiving my certification in sword and shield but that will have to wait. I am currently certified in unarmed, single-sword, and quarterstaff. Growing up playing video games, I always wanted to be like the tough female heroines. My personal goal is to be a motion-capture stunt performer. That’ll be next year’s goal!
