Today we’d like to introduce you to Luiggi A. Norero.
Luiggi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I was born in Ecuador in 1984, my birth name is Luiggi A. Norero aka DjLuiJay. I was raised in the United States of America. In addition to being raised in this country that is filled with unlimited opportunities, I actually resided in Florida; however this was short-lived because my family then moved to Los Angeles, California the city of angels.
Shortly after moving I became interested in becoming a DJ; it seemed super fun and interesting to say the least. When I was seven years old, I witnessed a DJ doing their thing on the turntables and mixer. I wanted to know so much about it, like how do you mix? How does one blend a song together or drop a song. This was definitely a new world, and I knew I was all in! I started my journey by researching famous DJs like DJ Qbert, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Am, and DJ E-Man and more, I really liked their styles. I decided I would develop my style from these amazing DJ’s so I created my own style and sound that I knew people would love and enjoy listening to. At fifteen, my family helped me purchase DJ equipment; I started to DJ at weddings, quinceañeras, and birthday parties. There is always a time in life when a person arrives!
At one particular party, I was able to get the ticket to Hollywood. At this particular event, I was all in and everything went smoothly; let’s just say I was feeling myself. I then was a DJ by the age of 17; however I was still nervous and anxious. At a particular event when it was my turn to DJ, I got into my vision tunnel and blocked all outside noise and focused on what I do best which was to entertain and make people dance. Once the night ended, the owner came up to me and told me that he hadn’t heard a DJ like that in a while. The owner of the place was able to link me up with other people that own clubs as well and I was able to start my journey working popular Hollywood Clubs, I was able to meet someone that does Radio DJ, I was shocked and excited at the same time when they asked me to DJ on air at a radio station, I accepted the invitation and guess what? I did so well that they wanted me to be an On Air DJ for the radio station; I was so happy and humbled that to this day, I still DJ at clubs, radio stations, birthday parties, weddings, quinceañeras and high school events.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a hardworking and smooth journey for me because I have so much compassion and dedication for the career I am in and knowing the way of this music industry as well. The struggle that I have is matching prices and competing with other DJ’s or companies around the area. Sometimes DJs are valued so low that other DJ’s that have already put in so much sweat, work, and time, sometimes just say yes or take a job for an amount that is not fair. And at times, those DJ’s are chosen because they will cut down their prices to get the job. But I believe that by providing great customer service, building relationships, and getting to know what the customer or client wants, you can deliver and execute your best and provide them with the best experience and if they like what they hear most likely they will never look for another DJ. Building relationships with people is always an important part of being a DJ. One opportunity always leads to another opportunity and you can go far if you work hard and are passionate about what you do. It is always nice to know that your customers love your work so much that they refer you to their friends and family. And it is especially nice to be referred to Radio Stations. I am very humbled and blessed to be where I am today.
Can you give our readers some background on your music?
I am a DJ with a passion for music and people. I know exactly how to get people moving to the beat or slow it down as needed for the mood. Smooth, Mixing, and blending transitions are my specialty. My prices are reasonable and I can create custom packages in order to accommodate your budget. I pride myself in my work and know that my customers will be satisfied. I make sure to always work with my customers in order for them to want to work with me again. I also create pre-made, custom mixes for your event for individuals with a tighter budget. These mixes are made to order and will have your personal song selection. I play Reggaeton, Hip-hop, Top40s Cumbia, Bachata, Salsa, Merengue, 80s – 90s and make remixes. Is our city a good place to do what you do?
The city that I live in LOS ANGELES, CA is the perfect place to be a DJ just like other populated cities like Miami, Chicago, New York, Las Vegas, Atlanta and others. I will most definitely recommend someone to come to LA and explore and start their journey, it can be hard but if you are committed and ready to put in the work, you will succeed in this industry. Our city is so powerful that our race here is so amazing and everyone would like to do business with you if you treat them with dignity and respect. LIKE I ALWAYS SAY, I don’t see color; I only see GREEN $$$$
